I'm not a gamer. I live very close to HQ. I've applied there a bunch of times over the years because I thought the culture would be cool with a younger crowd. Tbh, I'm not too interested in video games at my age (although I didn't say that during the interview obviously lol). I came close to an offer one time, but made a small verbal misstep that probably blew it for me. All the other times, the interviewers were extremely arrogant. The last time, an interviewer pretty much hung up on me after ONE question lol. I certainly won't be applying there again. Not because any of the bad press, just because I've got better things to do then work with a bunch of arrogant people. And of course the massive layoffs also concern me. While I don't follow gaming, hard to miss the disastrous game release they had a while back.

My last company was a s*** hole :), and there were still arrogant people there if you can believe that. At least Blizzard has/had reason to be arrogant. My last company certainly did not. My new company is doing very well and the stock is shooting up. Haven't come across an arrogant person yet.

All these companies with arrogant behavior / behavioral issues with mgmt, it'll come back around eventually.

Do people even still play WoW? Obviously it was huge back in the day, but seems like most people have moved on.

EDIT: I got curious and checked Statistica. Seems like they only lost 1.2M or so.

I probably wouldn't work for Amazon either. Sure, it's more money then I make now... but they have an arrogance issue too. Also, if you do your due diligence (and a friend who works there confirmed), the benefits are really bad and the base salary also has a somewhat low company wide cap ($160k). All other value is Amazon stock. They kind of get you on that too, since Amazon's vesting schedule from RSUs is really bad. You don't get much til year 4. So if you don't last 3 - 4 years, you didn't vest too many shares. And most people don't.

Very simple really, it all started when they associated themselves with Activision. It became all about profit after that. Then the founders started leaving because they realized their mistake. The Activision-Blizzard of today, is not the same as the old Blizzard.
