I didn't think Time Warner allowed external at all, or are you saying the only one that forces you to lose stuff among providers that allow external drives?

Time warner in Racine, WI allows external drives and the dvr's still use the internal drives. You do however lose all recordings if you put the external on another dvr.

That was absolutely excellent advice! Thanks a lot!! :)

My final setup was that I bought a new HD TV for the bedroom and had the technician disconnect the HR20 from the living room and set it up in the bedroom. He also installed the HR24 in the living room and both were setup for Whole-Home.

I moved the HR20 external drive to the bedroom and, as you stated, I was now able to view and play its content from my HR24 in the living room. Sweeeet! :D

Next day, I went out to buy a WD20EADS and Antec MX-1 for the HR24. Now I've got super-massive recording space overall.

I was lucky, though, the sales rep at Fry's sold me the last WD20 and he said that no more were being ordered probably because it was about to be replaced by the 3TB model. He checked inventory at the nearby locations and they were at zero.

Anyway, I'm just glad I got mine and, most of all, that my recording and Series Manager recording list are all still available to me.

Thanks, everyone, for all your info and help!

Welcome to the joys of having multiple DVRs and MRV! I have 6 DVRs all with drive upgrades giving me a total of 10 terabytes of space. :D

Nice to read a 'happy ending' story for a change.
