I never said directv was at fault for the weather. I said a loss of service is unacceptable. the only times a loss of service is appropriate is if someone who has no idea what they are doing tries to upgrade or peak their own dish signal and breaks something. if you are dumb enough to try to fix something you have no clue how to fix then you deserve no service. but for the money we pay a month, i expect service to work all the time.

I'm a lawyer. If I'm not perfect, there are problems. Tell a client who has a son who got arrested for something stupid that "nobody's perfect and jimmy will have to be in jail for a few days because we are busy." in any other job on earth, if you don't do your job right the first time, and right away, you get fired. in directv's world nothing ever seems to be their problem and anyone who actually expects fast service is unreasonable or idiotic. of course the snow isn't directv's fault. but the lack of service is their fault.

I just read over this entire thread, and in the end, the only thing I find here idiotic, is the entire thread to begin with. Let's see:

    1) It's the end of the year, everyone is getting new service for X-Mas so of course there is a backlog of the tech's.

    2) It snowed, it happens, maybe in Texas you're not used to it, but it happens.

    3) To think that it's impossible for a satellite signal to get knocked out due to weather.

Every single one of these things should be marked under the category of common sense, and that's the end of it. I've heard of people mounting the LMB's on the old 8 foot satellite dishes and then they never get knocked out by weather, but then you have an big ugly dish in your yard. They make dish heaters to melt snow and ice for people living in colder climates, otherwise get creative. There isn't a single tech support or install service in the US that isn't backlogged right now from X-Mas, this happens every year, always has, always will.

Sorry to hear that, but I think even you would agree that commute traffic this time of year is much less than other times. Someone is taking a vacation.

Oh, and for better or worse my company(s) have pretty much shut down between Christmas & New Years since 2002. We can use vacation time or unpaid time .. but generally speaking we just don't come in this time of year.

Oh come on .. Jimmy sitting in jail is not the same thing as guy with snow on dish missing a few hours of TV because DIRECTV didn't come out within minutes to brush off the snow. And I bet your fee is significantly higher than DIRECTVs .. let's at least compare fruits .. you seem to be wanting to compare an apple to an orangutan.

I was simply refuting the notion of the poster who said that nobody is perfect.

    Hmm.

May I suggest that this thread return to a little more civil path?

    Thank you.

it's not like it's the busiest time of year for signups, or anything.

*IF* customer service were indeed a priority, there would be a way found to not have this problem at a critical time. IMHO, it's clear to me, at least by anecdotal means, that CS is clearly NOT a priority at D*.

I think we're presuming facts not in evidence. One person says there is a one week delay in getting service in one place. That does not, in itself, translate to a national breakdown in customer service.

Maybe the OP should switch over to the "competitor" and see if the service is any better, where snow and ice is concerned.

    I doubt it is.

DirecTV provides me a service and I know that service comes from satellites some 23,000 miles in space to a small dish in my yard. Do I complain when an act of God interrupts my service?

No sir......it comes with the territory...so to speak.

So glad my dish is pole mounted in the side yard. Numerous times in the winter it needs sweeping here in snowy Michigan..

I think some of these replies are "funny".
We get so used to things that when we can't have them, we get so upset.
    [small reality check]
We had a storm come through a year or two back and lost power for three days.
When you're trying to use a wood stove to heat & cook, and using candles to fight off the dark, while being able to watch TV would've been nice, it was the least of our concerns.

same but then again if I recall right we own the dish and unless you have the PP the dish is your responsiblity.

can you image the screaming if they would have rolled a truck and charge the OP 49.95 to come out and clean off the dish?

must never have had to deal with cable company techs - 7 days is fast turn around for them

    What where we talking about?

Oh, we were waiting for the OP to have a moment to get back to us with his satellite strengths so we can give him some advice... as thats what we like to do here. :)

By "ancedotal means," I'm talking about a much bigger pool. This thread only helps illustrate that.

I'm pretty sure cable TV and FIOS are unaffected by snow and ice.

    Sakatomatoes...
The first few rains and the first hard freeze and my comcast goes out every year. And that doesn't even include people hitting poles and boxes because of the rain and ice.:eek2:Truck roll is 5-9 days. The grass isn't always greener.

OK .. I'll state the obvious .. YES, everyone would like to call for service on anything and would like the serviceman (or woman) to show up within minutes of of the need arising. Duh! when something is broken everyone wants it fixed instantly. Now that we've exhausted the obvious .. may the rest of us actually get back to reality? It's not a perfect world and while perfection is a great goal .. It can never be achieved.

Actually, back @ my parents home in NC .. any rain meant no Cable TV .. and yes, the cable guy came out many times but could never come to a satisfactory solution. The funny thing is now that they have switched to DIRECTV they are much happier .. but still have to brush the snow off of the dish from time to time.
