    Thanks-I had assumed (it appears incorrectly) that they would want a tech visit prior to authorizing an exchange.

    My receiver went thru 2 days of resetting at least 3 times a day, but hasn't done that for a couple days now. I have my fingers crossed that it was just a transient problem

    Rats...this morning another message like before

    Warning 981
    Boot Recovery
    Vital program information will now be downloaded
    Do not disturb or unplug the receiver until this screen disappears

    Well-after 30 minutes or so, the screen changed-receiver started up---and then the message reappeared and it's again downloading vital information

    I think I'm gonna cry LOL

    Didn't take nearly as long to download...but on restart, it happened again
    part way thru the process, the screen went blank. Power light is still on but nothing happening

    I believe I'm officially sunk :(

    If you have received this message more than once and unplugged the receiver from the electrical outlet for 10 seconds, a replacement receiver may be needed. Please let me know. Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply Ray...got the message 3 times. I did unplug it and now it keeps giving me the Dish network-starting up screen (even that has powered down & restarted a couple times now). Pretty colors though :)

    Oh-funny to see you responded so quickly-while you were doing that I was sending you a PM

    thanks guy!

    Arggg-I wrote to RaymondG when I meant to write RayC, and I'm afraid each thinks the other is helping me-

    In the meantime, --- neither is, and it's all my fault

    I sent a pm to ray c when I meant to send to ray g, which then I did.
    So, I think each thinks the other is helping but in fact neither has replied.

    LOL-I have discovered the 722k makes an excellent paperweight...but it's not much fun to watch this way.

    =========

    Just heard from Ray C...he's having a new receiver sent, $15 fee for postage on the old one.
    I'm happy again LOL

    ==========

    another edit-was notified today that the $15 postage fee has been waived & I should have the rec in 3 to 5 days :) (I'm remembering why I've been with dish for such a long time now)

    What does the protection plan really cover? My understanding is if you lease a receiver, for example, Dish is responsible for the receiver (at least for repairs the result of normal wear and tear or defective components). I have never had the DPP. I have two 622 receivers and a 211 since 2006. Two of my 622's went bad over the years. I called Dish, and they readily agreed to send me a replacement receiver and an empty box to send the other one back, no cost (except for shipping on one of the replacements). So what is a person really paying for with the DPP?

    with the protection plan you wouldnt have to pay for the shipping on replacements.
    It brings the cost of tech work down from 95$ to 15$, and in the case of top tier customers down to 0$.

    The only thing it doesnt cover is "user damage", I.e. if you call in and say you accidentally put the remote in the washer. Tough cookie your paying for the replacement and shipping. (So hint hint: Always say it just stopped working, you dont ship the remote back so no sense in telling the truth, they WILL make you pay for it if you indicate you actually broke it).

    Or if you send in a receiver and get it replaced, if they find that its been infested with insects your paying for the receiver. Stuff like that.

    So I think I'm past the 120 days but can't find it on the dish site and can't find out where to drop it either.
    Any clues?

    I have a work order in progress so I can't see it on the site, but I think it's under programming, in the list down the middle.

    You do not have the option to remove the Protection Plan online. You can call in or provide your account number in a PM and I can assist you further. Thanks.
