I was just hinking about this today, and I have been a customer since April 1996. I'm not sure when Dish Net even started up, but I know we had a choice between that and Primestar (or something like that).

interesting enough......i started with echostar in 6/87 for about 6yrs with a houston tracker reciever in nashville tn..... a lot of the dealers were not used to the dishes tuning from west to east.......so YES it has been around longer then d*. back then i had a 12' dish. i did leave for a few years...i was ecstatic to learn that dish was echostar when i moved to fla in 4/97-- it helped me make my choice!. a few years back on the charlie chat they ran a pretty cool story about how dish was started......they showed e* in the early stages out of denver.......when they sold their 1st big dish.....& then how they have grown......it also showed the launch of some of their 1st satellites

June 96 - after hearing about DishNetwork, I took a trip to Colorado for a friend's wedding, and bought my first system at Soundtrack - since Dish hadn't rolled out service nationwide yet (not available in Texas...). Many years later, I'm still with them, and happy with my decision!

Let's see. The first Echostar launched in 1995, so I've been with them since...1995! I bought my first DISH service from a guy on ebay!

I'd have to look back at my paperwork to be sure... but I believe it was sometime around March of 2002 when I signed up with Dish. Happy and about 98% problem free in all that time.

You're one of the first customers. Echostar offically launched Dish Network on March 3, 1996.

November 1997. Would have been earlier, but I lived in an apartment and they had an exclusive agreement with what was then TCI Cablevision. How I loathed TCI...

Shortly thereafter I was paying $65/Month just for Distant Networks. :)
Of course, those went away. Someday, maybe I will see what NPS says about this location on the fringe of the Philadelphia Market. Maybe FOX? :)
    I do have a 4DTV subscription with EchoStar's Cband affiliate. :)

My Quicken files show a Dish PPV August of 1996, don't know if that is when I signed up or if it was earlier.

Had Dish since February 1997. In that time went through 3 dishes: the original single satellite dish, then a Dish 500, lastly a SuperDish. Just 2 receivers in 10 years: started off with a 4000 something, then a 510 DVR for the last 3 and a half years. I paid $15 for the original system (after rebates). All upgrades along the way were free. In 10 years the only mechanical failure I had was a DP34 switch that went bad. Dish replaced it for free. Had the common software glitches in later versions of the 510 of course.

It was a good run. So it was kind of sad that I dumped Dish this week. Cable has locals in HD, Dish doesn't. Simple as that.

Since January 18 , 1997. I started with Primestar in 1995. I have three Dish accounts:

    1. My wife and I -two 622 dvrs- 1000.2 sat dish
    2. mom & dad - 625 dvr -1000.2 sat dish
    3. aunt - 501 dvr - dish 500

I did their installs , bought the receivers and they pay me for their bills. They are very technophobic and do not like dealing with the tech part and they hate the billing part. I do all of that for them . They do love the service with the dvrs though. For the first time last year my mom could actually watch something different then my dad in the bedroom using the 625 dvr. She loves it.

I have also had TWC and tried Directv for one year in 2003 just to see what I was missing - Nothing. I have had Dish through out those years and I will be with Dish for the forseeable future. Great low price & service for the most cutting edge technology and the most Hd channels available in the market.:D
