Vacation home, all I want is local channels. Can I use HR-20 OTA without being hooked to satellite and get the DVR capabilities?

It's not gonna work without a sat signal.

Even if it had an active access card, you won't get the guide data you need to record without a dish.

Well, it will work for a while. Rumors floating seemed to say 13 hours is the limit, but I am living proof that it can last 4 days, so if carting your DVR to a summer cabin for a weekend is the idea, that might work. Anything longer might be iffy.

If you are going to the cabin who wants to watch TV? Enjoy the outdoors.

Cut him a break. We all enjoy the outdoors, but by 11 PM we want a beer, a BJ, and SportsCenter (although he won't get that live).
