So I don't want a 34...? How do I make sure?
Depending where you are located -They are Not installing HR34's or have them on the trucks - but when the installers shows -just ask
So most are getting 44's now?
Yes - and in some areas you will get a HR54
Wonder if I told them I was going 4K soon I would get a 54?
If you tell them when you call for a upgrade (U) want 4k they will make it happen - Again it depends if they are installing HR54's in your area (they are National at this time.
Nope, that wont guarantee a 54 since all Genies can do 4K right now (as long as you have a C61K or 4K DIRECTV ready TV)
I will call next week and see how it goes.. Hopefully I won't get a 34. If he shows up with one do I have to take it?
Tell them when you call that the 34 is absolutely unacceptable and it they show up with one, refuse the install or shipment if they send it.
The box has the model number on the outside of it.
If the installer calls you before he gets there, ask him then. If he doesn't have one, it saves him a trip. This might not happen, there has been some cracking down on the phone calls while they are on the road.
That sounds more like an HDD. I've yet to have a problem with a fan on any DVR.
I called the D* tech said it sounds like the hard drive is going bad..
They offered to replace it for $19.99 + shipping without making me
start a new commitment. They also offered a Genie upgrade for free.
I am on the fence mostly because of cost. Adding the Genie will increase
my bill $3.. not to bad but we also have the annual price increase coming.
So with the two I will be looking at $8.50 more a month... ugh
For $3 a month difference, I would go with the Genie, but as noted above absolutely do not accept an HR34. Only accept an HR44 or HR54.
But, if that added $3 pushes your bill above your budget (with the annual increase), then a replacement HR24 is the way to go.
Let us know what you decide, and how things are with whatever you end up with.
This does not seem to be a HDD problem at all to me. I have 10 HR24-100's and have had four fans go bad over the course of their lifetime. They are typically the ones that have two beveled edges, not a totally square fan. They are still available at Ali Express. I replace the fans and don't lose all my recordings on a 2TB drive.
If you upgrade and go the route of the Genie, tell them you need a (fiber) optical port for your A/V system, and then you shouldn't get a HR34. HR34's do not have the optical out audio port on them.
Again, never had a fan problem. I've had so many HRs that I lost count years ago and so many problems with them...well, I've documented most of them on this site over the years, but never a bad fan. I think I have four 24-100s, just replaced an HDD in one that was making the same kind of noise and it stopped the noise completely. I did try the fan out when I had the cover off and it was quiet.
But, obviously, our experiences will be different. With my luck, I'm kinda surprised I've never had a fan issue.
There are at least to generations of HR24-100's- some with square fans and some with the two beveled edges. I have a note at home with the MFR date ranges between the two types. The HR24-100's I have with the square fan have never failed me. I've only had issues with the beveled ones.
