Got up this morning and turned everything on. The screen showed the "Almost there. A few more seconds please..." for a bit, then would blank and the "Hello, your DIRECTV receiver is starting up" message flashes on and off, then it goes back to the previous message.

    :bang

I tried turning the unit off and back on with the remote - no response.

Tried an RBR - same sequence of messages as above.

Tried unplugging the unit for several minutes- same result.

Anybody got any other ideas, or is it service call time?

Any other receivers than the HR34 and it's clients? If so, are they working?

You could try forcing an install of firmware. Reboot and as soon as you see the front panel light up, not just power, then press 02468 on your remote. If that doesn't work it's time to call DirecTV.

I'm moving this to the HD DVR forum.

Before doing anything else I suggest you unplug it for at least thirty minutes and try again.

    Is it in a cabinet?

    Thanks for the responses.

Wasn't sure which forum to post in - thanks for moving it to the right one!

I went ahead and contacted Tech Support. They're shipping a new one out (I went ahead and got the protection plan when I got the Genie/HR 34)

I'll try some of the other things in the next couple of hours and see if anything works. Tech support said it was her first time with a problem like this on the Genie (), and her best guess was a power supply problem in the unit.

OK, gave this a shot. Unplugged for about an hour and 15 minutes - same results.

Trying this one now. Appears to have hung at 95%

    At least something different happened.

The message "New Software Found (06DB)" came up along with "Downloading Software...please wait. Please do not interrupt power during this process." along with a progress meter, which progressed nicely until it hit 95%. then it stopped moving. Been that way for 15+ minutes now....

Also have some grayed out numbers on the screen - " 1/1/0/20" is in the top left corner, and "78/001C/0725/06/0105" is in the top right corner.

I'll let it run a bit longer, but I believe this unit is dead

95% is where the firmware flash starts. I'd agree, it's dead Jim.
