This may be a stupid question, but here goes... I am very interested in the new DirecTV HR-44, but I only want it connected to one tv. I live in an area where I don't have access to fast internet service so having all the DVRs in my house connected to it doesn't make sense. All I'm really interested in are access to the five tuners. Will I be able to do this?

Yes, you can get just an HR44 and you don't have to hook it up to the Internet. Genie Clients aren't required.

One more question. I currently have a Slimline-5 with two HR24s and one H24 connected to it. I am replacing one of the HR24 receivers with the HR44. Will this work with my current setup?
    Thanks

YEs, but it is best to keep your HR24s and replace the H24 with the HR44. Note that DirecTV would not guarantee that you will get an HR44.

    Isn't there a tuner count problem with 2 HR24 + Genie, that you don't have with HR24. H24, & Genie.

Isn't the HR44 SWM-only? Slimline-5 won't cut it unless you have a SWM-8 you didn't mention, though your current setup would need five connections so maybe there's a multiswitch in there somewhere. And yeah, adding a Genie in the mix puts you at 9 tuners, which can be a problem.

Note also that you don't need internet connectivity to run Genie clients. You can have a Genie and clients and not use external internet. The clients will be networked to the Genie over the coax. If you plan to integrate the Genie into your existing setup, you would want to have whole-home anyway, so you can view recordings from any DVR on any other receiver/DVR.

I don't see a tuner count problem since DirecTV can/will instal a SWM16. When I used to order my equipment I don't worry about the technical stuff, I just placed the order and let DirecTV do its thing

Ok guys I just looked and the Slimline 5 is connected to a Zinwell 6x8 multi-switch. I also noticed 3 connectors on the switch that are not being used.

That will need replacing with an SWM16 (plus power inserter) since the HR44 can only work with an SWM system.
