I'm trying to resurrect an HR10-250 just for OTA watching with a buffer. (i know no guide data or recording) I went into setup and chose 'antenna only' but it won't tune in any stations. I tested OTA signal strength and channels do register in the test meter.. In system info it says account closed. Does that render the box useless? Am I missing something? Thanks.

I have a couple deactivated but they still work as OTA tuners. Plug in a Sat cable to the 101 bird and you get guide data too. I’m not sure why you can’t get it to tune. The scanning for all channels is still intact on the 10-250, besides the ones recognized by DirecTV. You just won’t get guide data on those.

I found the scan command and it's working.. It's under settings>channels. I was looking for it under settings>sat & ota setup.. Thanks..

Can I copy this HR10 drive to a new one like we copy current drives? XFS_Dump/Restore?

Ok, If I wanted to skip booting gparted and going thru those terminal commands, Could I use something like EaseUS Partition Manager instead? Clone disc & resize partition after?

We have very good working reliable process based on utilizing a tool what have proper support of XFS file system employed by DTV DVRs.
All people coming here for copy/expand/shrink requests did/do use it with 100% warranty.
Out there a lot of programs what doing same functionality but XFS drives. If you sure it has the XFS support, you could try. Please report your result here.

I’ve not seen that be successful.

There is a reason the first step is to load the new drive in the DVR fresh and then copy the files.

Ok, I'm finally going to copy the hr10-250 drive with Gparted. How do I prepare the new blank drive? With the newer boxes I would boot the DVR with the new drive to set up partitions.

What are you trying to do? The HR10, like all other MPEG2 only boxes, will be obsoleted pretty soon and no longer work on Directv. Originally that was supposed to happen at the end of this year. It has been pushed back, and we don't know exactly what the schedule is, but you may not want to spend a lot of effort on it considering it will soon become a door stop.

Yeah, That didn't do anything P. Connected a NTFS formatted drive with the jumper set to master to the dtivo hr10-250 & it's stuck on the "welcome powering up" screen. No dtv setup taking place that i can tell.

I'm only using it for a live buffer on OTA programming.

Is there any market for HR10-250's? I still have one in a closet somewhere.

I'm not sure, I was just using it to pause live TV. Looking around the web it seems that InstantCake is needed to install the tivo image on a drive. (or copy your existing) However, It seems I have bigger issues since re-installing the original drive, It still wont boot properly. It goes to the welcome screen then after a couple of minutes all the Led's on the front flash and the screen flashes black then back to the welcome screen. I wonder if the power supply has bit the dust.

Do you not have it connected to a dish, so you don't depend on guide data? If so you should be fine.

The way to duplicate the drive should be the same as how you do it on a Tivo, because the HR10 is really a Tivo. You need to do a full clone of the drive. It has been 15 years since I've done that, but if you google how to install a new hard drive in a Tivo you can follow that procedure.
