I am a little confused by your post, you are not mad about VOD but you are mad about VOD. Maybe I am reading it wrong. Either way I don't think there are "annointed" CErs, evidenced by the fact that two of this forums moderators can't get the VOD on their systems. Directv made a mistake and a lot of people don't have something that almost everyone else does not have. If you never came upon this forum you would be blissfully ignorant of the VOD trial, like most.

    My gosh...

I am starting to think it was a mistake to release the VOD code to anyone... they should have just kept it internal... and just released it to the public at once; No CE trials of any type (which was an option)

I am actually extremely shocked at some of the responses I have seen in the last 48 hours... I really am...

I have explained it a few times.... and won't really bother again.

There was no "selection" process... those that are having issues with it not activating, will hopefully be resolved soon.

Those of you that feel that you are not "true CErs"... well......
Yah know... I am sorry you feel that way.

Because of the technical "processes" that have to go on to enable this... it had to be done someway... and the process was chosen...

The reaction to this... will definently shape the future of the CE process...

Nobody should be mad. Based on the agreement we have with being a CE of ANY kind, there are no guarantees. D* owes us nothing, not even an explanation. Maybe, based on demand, increased bandwidth that VOD would cause, they decided to limit this functionality. Makes sense to me. This is a BIG upgrade and imagine the screaming if this had broken everyone's DVR? Keeping it small, is probably their best course of action. And based on the issues that those who DID get VOD are reporting, it's probably a good thing they kept it small if that was their intent. Would I have liked to have this working for me? Of course. But I'm not going to complain about something I have voluntarily commited to with NO expectations and I am glad of any improvement I will get.

There's STILL some outstanding issues with my box that I would actually rather have fixed, such as channels not changing without hitting enter or recording based on keyword to work like it does with TiVo, but I will not complain about it, and I know that D* has our backs for the most part.

See anything I wrote back in Jan/Feb about this DVR to see that I am NO shill for D* I used to hate the HR20, now I really like it.

It's truly sad that the CE process has come to this. I've got to agree with Earl that it's gotten hateful, and not thankful -- and I don't see the emails and PM's he's gotten. I'm embarrassed by some of the posts I've seen on this forum, and apologize that Earl/Tom et. al. have had to endure such anger.

It is a choice of YOURS to either participate in the CE's or not. No one forces you to download the latest -- sometimes buggy -- software. With the highs (VOD) come the lows (early MediaShare;)).

This was a mistake, an error...pure and simple. I don't have the VOD active, yet I'm enjoying 190 still the same. The HR20 has come a long way in such a short time due to the Cutting Edge program. PLEASE don't force it to be shut down or turned into a private process by being hateful, resentful and "scorned" because your HR20 doesn't have VOD....it WILL...in time. Patience.

from looking through these threads, and maybe I missed it, but,

is there a notification to subscribe to to be emailed when DTV has resolved the issue with VOD activation? (Just like CE notification?)

I saw earlier that stickies were going to be posted in the forum with updates (one daily).

Basically, I have resigned to sit tight and let this sort itself out; I just don't want to miss a resolution when it hits. And I certainly don't want to read any more "DL'ed CE, RBR, waited 400 hours, no channel 1000!)

Boy, what a tough crowd here, I'm surprised that someone hasn't posted that they've contacted a lawyer yet and is going to sue D* and DBSTalk about this mess yet;) Maybe some folks have forgotten some of the rules of the game for the CE process, like "There is an INCREASED chance that a major bug may exist in the version.", guess you can call the VOD activation problem a major bug.

Am I disappointed that VOD isn't working for me, yep. I've done just about every CE for HR20-700, R15-300 and H20-600 and have had both HR20's attached to my home network even before the networking option was added to the software. But as someone said earlier, s*ht happens, it's a testing program that everyone participating in decided to do it on their own, it wasn't forced on them and they weren't paying extra to be part of it.

IMHO, if you're unhappy about the VOD 'selection' process then just don't bother participating in the CE process anymore, since maybe D* will do something else in the future that will tick you off to no end. Frankly, if I was working for D* and saw some of the posts from the folks here I'd be happy if they didn't particiapte in any CE's in the future, who needs the BS from them.

I can't blame you Earl. I'm shocked people have reacted the way they have. In my mind, having access to a CE is a privilege not a right. Anyone, who doesn't understand how the purpose and intent of the CE process and bites the hand that feeds it, might should not have access to future CE's.

Thanks for providing the opportunity help test and shape things before they are released to the masses.

I do not yet have VOD, even though I activated it. I really like the CE program and the relationship this forum has with it. Unfortunately, I am out much on weekends and only get to test about half the time. Being a Marine and law officer now, I probably dont have the technical motivation to test as deep as most. Regardless, I look at the current VOD situation as a natural test process that will enable a better product in the coming weeks. I am not usually that patient, but this is a voluntary test process and should be given due consideration for such and let DirectV take care of issues as they need to, without undue criticisim (at least at this stage).

I posted this last night in response to the tonyd tirade. It was directed at him but I'm going to repost it directed toward all.

"You have not paid for the right to be included in the ce program. It is done free of charge and all are welcomed as long as you read the posted warnings.

So you don't have any "rights" to anything but what you subscribe to from Directv.

What you get out of this program is what you put into it. There are hundreds on here that did everything right and still don't have VOD. An error occurred. That's part of the risks involved."

Please don't let a few bad apples here ruin the CE process. Like you, I'm absolutely disgusted by some of the comments here. I'm a software developer and I know what the testing process can be like. We begged for weeks/months for this and now we got it. Like any other new process, it needs work. So what? This is what we signed up for. Even if it was a select group (and I know that it wasn't), so what? There would have been a strategic reason for it. I'm sure the rollout of this is that one thing that would have been near impossible to test as it is related to our accounts. Sure enough, that is what broke. Geez, people act like getting reruns of "Days of Our Lives" is the end-all.

So for those of you that don't like what has happened the last couple of days, just delete your login here. Nobody lied to you and you are serving the purpose that you signed up for: to help test.

While a person should be aware of the possibility of something going wrong when participating in a CE, I could somewhat understand the anger/annoyance should a feature such as recording be affected negatively (missing recordings, deleting recordings, etc...), but to be upset that you can't access a new feature quite yet because of a computer error is another thing entirely... especially when most people who are able use this feature are complaining of errors and other problems...

I have been networked for approx 4 months, haven't missed a CE yet.
I enabled vod yesterday and have not seen any sign of VOD channel 1000 or anything to make me belive it's working. Yes my system test shows everthing working fine including phone and both network connections. I've tried rbr and software reboot, Still nothing. Anyone with any ideas?

I'm trying not to read the volume of the few into the tone of the many. In general, CE'rs have done a good job of testing what they get and not complaining too much about what they are not getting. Perhaps disappointment but no resentment. Stay away from resentment and demands and CE will be fine.

IMHO this thread has gotten out of hand, we have a few hundred reports of I did everything and not 1000s. Another hundred or so +1s and a whole bunch of rude people slamming everything and everyone under the sun.

Would it make sense at this point to close this thread with over 650 replies, and then create a sticky called something like "Didn't have channel 1000 and now I do!" and only allow those type of posts. Then we could subscribe to that one and get some type of idea that we are on the road to victory here!

Earl, I understand your feelings on this, but these people that are complaining just don't understand the CE process or beta testing process. Most of us are here to help with improving the software, not for personnel gain. I for one will probably use VOD very little, but am excited about maybe being able to test it.

People need to remember when the Photos & Music first came out. At the beginning a small group was able to get it, as more and more CEs came out, fixing the bugs, the numbers of those getting it went up. I am sure we will see the same with VOD.
