When I got D* to agree to the HR20 upgrade, they CSR couldn't confirm whether it would be an HR20-700 or HR20-100. Should I really care? Are the odds of still getting an HR20-700 low at this point?

No. They are essentially the same unit. The -700 came out first, and the -100 later. They are both running the same version software. The numbers only differentiate which company made the HR20 (-700 is Pace, -100 is RCA/Thompson)

The -700 has an internal RF remote antenna, while the -100 has an external. The -100 has 2 ethernet jacks, but only one is functional. There is another difference (but I can't remember).

Any way, either version, I'm sure you'll love it!

p.s., if you get the -100, come check out the HundredNation!

You will probably get a -100 which is the newer one. But it does not matter they are about the same units.

IF you can get a -700 consider yourself lucky. I have had 2 bad -100s in the past week and I have had my -700 since October and have NEVER had a problem.

70 vs. 100. I'm not sure it matters. Different manufacturers, same specs, software, etc. I believe the 100 is black and the 700 is silver

Just manufacturer differences. 700's are the older (relative term) boxes. 700's also get software updates before the 100's. As to color, only a few black 100's were made. Personally, I've got a brand new silver 100 on the shelf.

I have 2 -100's and 1 -700. I have found the -700 to be a bit more reliable. The -100's lock up more often. The RF remote is also much better on the -700. The -100 sometimes does not respond to remote even in the same room 10 feet away (and yes the antenna is hooked up on the back). You sometimes have to pick up the remote and aim the bottom of the remote at the receiver to get it respond.

Also, the -100 cooling vents are on the side and the -700 vents are on the top.

BTW, the -100's came from DirecTV and the -700 came from Costco.
