Its the TV code that determines whether the TV/DVR ON & OFF keys will work or not. It either does or doesn't.

The OP is out of luck, it will always turn off & on the DVR. For others in this thread who wish their tv to go off & on with DVR, try the other tv codes for your brand of tv set.

Once the remote code is found that operates the TV, the TV power buttons will put on and shut off both TV and DVR --if the slide switch is in the DirecTV mode. There is another option that comes up after setting the TV code and that is to allow your remote to change TV inputs -- the screen will give you the instruction, which is another code, I believe, 960.

Thanks for the welcome. Been lurking for a few months and this place helped me make the decision to get on the HR20 bandwagon. I was/am a Tivo-aholic, but the transition to HR20 wasn't as bad as some made it out to be. But this place helps A LOT!

The PWR button works fine when the remote slider/switch is over on the TV icon with my TV.

But in no position do the D* & TV POWER buttons work with my TV.

Are you suggesting that I try finding another code through the manual process?

Edmund, I think I read somewhere on this forum where someone posted a link to a website that had boat loads of remote control codes for various TVs? I am looking for additional codes for a Viewsonic TV. Only one is shown in the setup, and this one does not work.

    Can you help any?

I have a Vizio LCD TV and have this issue, but found if I press TV ON a second time, the TV turns back off and the HR20 stay on. Try it!
