I mentioned on June 22 that I would be taking some "down" time for 4-6 weeks. As it turns out, I will be taking some more permanent down time as I will be stepping down from maintaining the HR20 Wish List. Fear not, though as a worthy replacement will be taking my place. You are all familiar with 'Steve' here @ DBSTalk.com. Effective immediately, Steve will be handling both the policy and the maintenance of the HR20 Wish List.
Steve has been instrumental in the inclusion of many items on the List. I'm sure that the decisions he makes will be beneficial to the process and help to keep the process moving forward. Besides, I've been doing this for the past 9 months and it's probably time for some fresh blood .
I'd like to thank everyone for your participation in the past and I look forward to seeing the results of the next round. I encourage everyone to take a fresh look at the HR20 Wish List once the new procedures are put into place. There are still a couple of weeks to get things finalized, but Steve should have things ready to roll in the first week of August. So look for upcoming changes and enjoy the new process.
Hope it's for happy reasons that you're taking the down time. We'll miss you.
Steve, you've got big shoes to fill!
Good luck to you both.
Thanks Doug for all the hard work you have put in and hopefully everything is Ok.
Boy, titles can go to some peoples head pretty easy... Cutting Edge:Echelon...
Doug, I am sure you will stay busy doing something you like to do, so good luck and I will do my part to bother Steve as well...
I'll continue to host the Wish List on my website, so I won't be too far away . In all honesty, when I first decided to move on there was a bit of sadness on my part. It's time, though. The Wish List needs some new enthusiasm and I think that Steve will be able to provide that.
I'm also hoping that the additional time will give me an opportunity to work on some new projects that will bring even more to the DBSTalk.com community.
Thanks for the good wishes. As Doug said, he won't be far away at all. Not only will he continue to be a major idea contributer, but he'll still be working in the background on our behalf as the technical wizard behind the Wish List process... and as a safety-net for me!
I'm away on vacation this week, returning home next week for my daughter's wedding at the end of the month. Once things settle down at home, I'm hopeful we'll be able to get the list back up and running by the first week-end in August.
I look forward to everyone's help in keeping the Wish List process moving forward in a similarly good-spirited and collegial fashion as it has in the past. And thanks again, Doug, for setting such a fine example to follow!
Congrats on the wedding.
I trust you won't be thinking about the Wish List during the reception!
Oh wait--we need to play video from the computer, so you can see the wedding video through the DVR!!
I look forward to your administration as Wish List Czar.
Thx for the good wishes! /s
Doug - Congrats on your retirement from maintaining the WishList ! I know you've been looking for a successor for a while, so I'm glad you found a victim -- oops, I mean volunteer!
And Steve, congrats on the new duties! I know you'll do a great job with it!
Thanks Drew and Thanks Steve.
Steve, Congrats to you as well.
30 second skip.
Add a third market for OTA choices. I live in a Medium size city near 2 other medium size cities. Direct TV does not offer locals in my market. However I can catch HD channels in all three markets with my HR20, however I have to choose only 2 markets as guide will only use 2 zip codes.
Thanks, guys! Should be fun!
I've been unable to reliably connect to the site from where I am on vacation, but I am on now and just saw Earl's CE announcement. Looks like some more of our feedback is being addressed! Great news.
Steve, I couldn't imagine a better choice for the Wish list!
I have a new one...
Last night we had some heavy downpours during So You Think You Can Dance. I played it back this morning and the status bar showed the orange bar for the entire hour - making me think it had recorded the entire hour and not been effected by the rain. Well once I started watching it, it was obvious portions were missed due to rain. In total, 8 minutes were missed as the end credits rolled at 0:52 of the status bar. I know on the HR10, it's green status bar would not have gone all the way to the right, giving you a clear indication that parts of the show were missing. I'd like to see this work the same on the HR20.
I guess the wishlist item could be:
For a show that's completed recording, the status bar should accurately reflect how much of the show was actually recorded, thus indicating how much (if any) of the show was missed due to rain fade or other issues.
Well, that wording could probably use some work, but I think it gets the idea across.
+1, yes, please ......:hurah:
I think that there are a few items that can be removed from the Wish List with the latest release. I'm going to leave that to Steve and his first revision of the Wish List, so look forward to the changes in the next couple of weeks.
I have 2 ideas for the wish list - these may have been covered in previous postings but I can't locate them in my searches:
1. I would like the ability to key in a time in minutes and then press the slip or skip forward, and/or the skip back, replay button - and have it go forward or back that exact amount.
Example: Key in 6 skip forward and it will skip forward 6 minutes. Watching a long tape of a sporting event or the best example would be NFL football you can just key in 12 and "slip" and it will skip half time!
I would like this to work in the buffer as well while watching a "live" show. If I turn on the HR20 and it is still on a channel I want to watch I could skip back to the start of a show very easily. Currently I can move back but I have to rewind at 4x only and I have to close my eyes to make sure I miss everything!!!
2. I would like the progress bar to go away faster than it does now - or even be able to turn it off by default
If I am skipping ahead or back it stays up to long and covers important information on the shows I watch (try watching the Tour De France on VS - and it covers the miles left and time that a break or group has) I like to skip ahead and quickly see where I am but it makes it harder when the progress bar covers it.
I am a convert from ReplayTV and they had some of the features above which I loved.
Thanks everyone - I have used this site since January to learn so much
Not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but have the HR20 "Clue In" when a recording is missed, for ANY reason. When there's a priority conflict, loss of satellite signal, loss of power, when it first gets the chance, the HR20 attempts to find the same episode/episodes/movie at a later time and record it then. If it can't, it could send a pop-up message saying "This wasn't recorded because (Whatever), and I can't find it at a later time."
