    (Report from Mrs. Pinion :D)

My wife had an issue when she was watching the HR21 today. She was browsing channels, stopped on one. Picture and sound were working fine. After about 30 seconds, the "Searching for Satellite" notification appeared in the bottom corner while the program was still coming in properly. Tried changing channels, channels all tuned in fine, but the notification would not go away. Even when she went into the guide, it still showed. After about 10 minutes of trying various things, she powered the HR21 down for 5 minutes. When she turned it back on, she had picture and sound, notification still there. She hit channel up, it went away and has been gone since.

When I got home this afternoon, I found tuner #1 went out again. LambdaBeta(AKA my wife) not happy about missing General Hospital which was recording on tuner #1...it's apparently my fault

I shutdown with power button on front panel and unplugged.

After about 4 minutes I plugged it back in and tried to startup but it couldn't find the satellite yet.

Unplugged again(after shutdown) and waited >15 minutes and this time it started normally.

The only thing that resets the tuner is to unplug. If I don't unplug long enough it doesn't reinitialize. It seems that >10 minutes is necessary.

When it came back, local ABC-SD(Lin--BOO) was on and the following happened...

While watching TV after screensaver activated. I hit the play button and it returned. I then hit record (because there was a story I wanted).

Circle of lights (anyone else reminded of "Dagger of the Mind") is pulsating as if it thinks it's paused. I noticed this when the screensaver started and it was still pulsating after hitting record.

≈5 minutes later screensaver activated again. I hit play and retruned to live TV and started a stop watch...yup...5 minutes later it went to screensaver.

I changed channel and the plusating stopped. 5 minutes later not screensaver.

When the screensaver activates, audio remains...you just can't see the picture.

I have a menu option called "Scheduler". I figured I would try to do some remote booking.

When I get to Directv.com and find something to record, the HR21 isn't listed. I don't even know if it works yet, like On Demand.

Is the HR21-100 supposed to be listed?

    Is this even enabled yet?

The HR21 series is not yet included in the Scheduler access...it is supposed to be (according to Earl's announcement) by some time between now and the end of February.

I noticed that that the Replay button stacks better.

Previously it was a little touchy. Hitting it once or multiple times it may not jump back very far. It never even occured to me to post about this because it was something I was kind of used to with the HR20-700. I always thought I was part of the problem because I hit the too fast and it worked better(but inconsistant) when I slowed down my stacked presses.

Using Ye-Olde-HDNet Test Pattern, I think I proved to myself that my impressions were correct. It consistantly jumps back six seconds.

The replay button has been much more effective since 0x195. I'm a FWx3 guy and if I over shoot it's much easier for me to jump back.

I also realized I need to do a better job shedding some bad habits...compensating for things without thinking about it to become a more effective tester.

So, is it me or is Instant Replay working better?

I agree... I too feel that it's working better. And as I've mentioned previously, I feel that the trickplay features in general have been much improved in this update. The box just feels so much snappier... dare I say I like using it more than my HR20 now. :D

Yes, it is... I'm primarily using the HR21, while my wife (and most of our recordings) uses the HR20. I'm impressed. I just have to find a block of time to get the networking set up. For some reason, my network won't recognize the game adaptor that I have attached to the HR21. It recognizes the HR20 just fine.

Watching Crossing Jordon (A&EHD) from buffer paused while on phone. System unpaused itself and went back to live tv buffer. The buffer had dumped 30 min of the show. Was only on phone about five min.

I'm trying to use it more than my HR20s, for the purposes of this trial.
I'm definitely hooked on 30sKIP and LEFT ARROW BACK, so not having those two features is a pain. Of course, YELLOW button TODO is a plus.

One other plus, which I've mentioned before, is the consistent tick marks, in 30-minute blocks. On my HR20s, the blocks on longer programs (sports) are a bit shy of 30 minutes.

I've had a busy week and haven't had as much time as I'd like to play with the -21. I expect my schedule to be tight for the next couple of weeks, so I apologize for not posting as frequently as before. (Can't catch Smiddy anyway.)

Two issues to report on the current software:

One missed Caller ID listing. CID has worked consistently and well on both my HR20s and my H20, regardless of the software. (I enabled it about 6 months ago.) Got one call this week that didn't appear on the screen (from my mother, but my wife was watching the H20 and answered the phone.) Compared the CID list to my two HR20s the next day, and all calls were on the HR21 except that one from my mom. (Verizon land line, split to the HR20s and then split again to the HR21.)

When coming out of 1FF, video will occasionally freeze when PLAY is pressed. Second press of PLAY starts the video at normal speed, but no audio. Then the audio rushes by at multiple x speed (as if you were FF an open-reel tape across a live play head--showing my age, I know). Audio catches up to video, then plays normally from there. This has happened several times. Not sure, but I think it may only be occurring when playing a program still recording (see below).

Which reminds me that the RESUME bug is still present. RESUME in a current recording will bring you to the beginning of the recording. RESUME in a completed recording will function normally, from the last point viewed.

Started to watch a recording. Wanted to fast fwd through the first half. Pressed ffwd 4 times. Unit went to ffwd x2. pressed play, ffwd several more times. No response for about 1 minute. Then suddenly the unit ran through every operation that I had hit. Then player worked as normal.

Hey guys, just got in today from being out of town all week.

HR21 updated correctly on Tuesday at 10:15pm (CST).

Been playing around for the last couple of hours and everything seems to be working fine.
