I'm putting this here, though I'm still running f8

Had a power outage last night; all dvrs on battery back-up.
HR21-100 still had internet connection when I took it out of standby tonight.
My 2 HR20-700s had lost connection; I had to rerun setup.
Modem and router not on battery power supply.

Watched Psych (recorded Feb 15). It started ≈30 seconds into it.

When I tried to use the replay button to backup it jumped ≈1 minute forward.

I rewound back to the begining. I let it run a few seconds then pressed RW and again it jumped forward again.

Each time I tried to replicate it, it would jump to the same place (Lassiter & O'Hara entering the museum)

    Wierd...:eek2:

Well, It's been over a week now and everything seems to be a-ok. No random screen saver/721 nonsense. VOD activated itself on my account and seems to be working quite well here. Anything downloaded has played back just fine. No strangeness with recordings or anything else out of the ordinary.

The only area I see that could use improvement would be in the UI's response time for channel changing. It is still a bit slow compared to how quick it was on 0x195, and as noted above I am also experiencing the info bar retaining the last channel's info for a couple of/few seconds after the picture and sound have tuned on the new channel selected.

This is a bigger problem. This SL doesn't work on my HR20 either.

My HR21-100 finally showed up on DVR Scheduler.

    So I tested it out.

I selected a show and scheduled it.

Less than one minute later it showed up on my To-Do list.

    <1 MINUTE :eek2:

    COOL :D

Ok, the SL works on my HR20-700. It recorded correctly last night.

However, my HR21-100 won't record Torchwood on HDNET with a SL.

I deleted and recreated the SL several times with no luck. I even tried creating it on the 10pm episode. Nothing works.

Last night I had to record the 10pm episode from the guide.

    Very Wierd...

The HR20-700 is running 0x1FE which I forced when it was a CE. I didn't get last weeks CE.

    Mike

EDIT: HR20-700 recorded last nights Torchwood but doesn't have next weeks in the To-Do list. This must be related to guide data and not the firmware version....maybe....or not...

We record the 5pm local news everyday (News Channel 8 at 5). The back-end is padded by half an hour.

During the recording of any show, if you are on that channel in live TV you can press the Record button and this menu pops up...

    Keep Recording
    Stop & Keep
    Stop & Delete

That is, unless you are in the extended end time period (the padding). In this case between 5:30-6:00pm.

In the padding the progress bar is green.

In the padding if you press the Record button it starts recording the current time slot. In this situation News Channel 8 at 5:30, which was scheduled for 5:30-6:00pm. The progress bar is now red.

Hit the Record button again and the Keep/Stop recording menu pops up. If you choose Stop and Delete it stops and deletes the News Channel 8 at 5:30. However, the padding for News Channel 8 at 5 is still recording BUT the progress bar changes from red to green.

The only way to stop the News Channel 8 at 5 from recording is to go to the list and hit the Stop button.

The green progress bar and the response of the unit when pressing the Record button is confusing. If you aren't familiar with it you may not be quite sure what's going on.

I actually had some guide tearing this afternoon. First time I have seen it on my 21-100....it lasted about four to five pages and then stopped....I havent been able to get it to do it again but will keep trying.....

I was watching a recorded show, hit guide and was scrolling by line when it happened.....

After the restart, I have not been able to replicate the loss of live buffer.

I suspect that it had something to do with the overall squirellyness(you know what I meas) of the receiver.

Still very solid. The only notable difference is that the HR21-100 handles the crop/4X3 setting correctly while the HR20-700 chokes on this setting (trick play replay/30 sec skip causes the "stretch" form to stick instead of the crop).

There is also a slight green tint to the picture for the HR21-100 in the Letterbox, Stretch and Original formats (with correct color on the crop format). I haven't seen anyone else report that issue so it may be specific to my box.

I had my first major problem with the HR21-100 the other night. On Tuesday night my wife and I tried to watch the Medium that recorded Monday night. I went to the List, highlighted Medium and pressed Play. The first thing I noticed after a few seconds was that the screen was black and remained black. I also noticed that it started 4 minutes into the recording. I pressed rewind, it went to the beginning and restarted but still had the black screen, no audio. I tried fast forwarding through to see if I could get video, but I couldn't get anything, so I gave up and we watched Medium on the HR20-700. There was no problem with that recording or the one on the HR10-250.

Yesterday morning I tried playing the apparently bad recording, but eventually all trick play functions ceased working. I was able to get to the menu and did a reset. Came back to it awhile later and the front light was still spinning, screen was blank and no response to either the remote or the front panel. I did a RBR and it came back up OK. Tried playing the bad recording again, fast forwarding through the entire program, but never got any video so I just deleted it. Haven't had a problem like this since the earlier days of the HR20-700.

A couple of times now when I start watching a recording from the Playlist it doesn't start at the beginning. Not always but sometimes.

I press Replay a couple of times to get back to the beginning. However, when it gets there sometimes it jumps ahead a minutes or so.

If I press RW instead of Replay it simply stops at the beginning and starts playing normally.

If I RW some and then use the Replay button the rest of the way, when it gets to the beginning it jumps forward again.

This only seems to happen when the recording doesn't start at the beginning. So far, if I let it play and hit replay to the beginning it doesn't jump forward for those recordings that started normally.

Only when the recording starts some amount of time into it does it do this.

So far that is. I'm still trying to get it to do this with a recording that starts normally.

Also so far, it only seems that only MPEG4 HD does this. I haven't actually tried to replicate this on SD or MEPG2 yet but that's next. Currently my notes only have this happening on MPEG4 recordings.

I do have to say that for the most part this is a very solid firmware version...Cool :D

Recording two shows this evening, Friday Feb 22, 9:00-10:00pm
Local CBS MPEG4 - The Ghost Whisperer
    USAHD MPEG4 - Monk

Started watching Ghost Whisperer at about 9:30pm.

I had paused Ghost Whisperer for while to look at some stuff on the laptop with my wife.

I finally finished watching and deleted Ghost Whisperer at about 10:50pm.

When I got back to live TV, Monk was on. Only it shouldn't have been. Turns out that the buffer had been rewound a full 90 minutes.

The progress bar was orange and showed the time as 9:21pm.

I timed it, it takes 54 seconds to rewind 90 minutes at RWx4 and 33 seconds with skip to tick.

However, we had only been on live TV for as long as it takes to delete the recording and exit the Playlist. We had audio the whole time. I know because the audio for the PIG was how we knew Monk was on.

BTW, the RW thing is annoying. If I hit the FW button quickly three time I get FWx3...but if I hit RW quickly 3 times I get a hesitation and then RWx1. I have to wait for RWx1 to come up and hit it additional time to get the higher speeds.

This has been a problem since day one with the HR20-700. It's something I'm so used to that it never occured to me to post.

On the last two recordings of American Idol off of my local HD Fox station... I've noticed that the video has been somewhat 'choppy' on occasion...

I'm not sure if this was in the broadcast or not...

Recorded Stargate Atlantis Friday, Feb 22 9-10pm, SCIFIHD MPEG4.

Went to watch it this evening and all we got w as a grey screen.

It's amazing how fast the progress bar goes when it playing a grey screen. It seems to be about 8-10 seconds for each minute.

I did a menu restart but that didn't help.

As everyone knows there is channel banner goofyness.

Here are some observations. These are the different versions in order of prevalence. (going from channel A to channel B)

    1. Channel A banner comes up, disappears in transition from channel A to B. Then channel A banner comes up again. This happens most of the time. Happened with channel up/down, direct channel input, and PrevCh button.

    2. Channel A banner comes up, disappears in transition from channel A to B. It gets to channel B and no banner comes up. Happened with channel up/down, direct channel input, and PrevCh button.

    3. Channel A banner comes up, disappears in transition from channel A to B. Channel B banner comes up with correct show title. Happened with channel up/down, direct channel input, and PrevCh button.

    4. Channel A banner comes up, disappears in transition from channel A to B. Channel B banner comes up but with the title for channel A's show. This is rare. It has only happened a couple of times and always with direct channel input. I have not seen it with channel up/down or PrevCh button.

    5. Channel A banner comes up and stays up throught the channel change plus the 2 seconds the guide is supposed to stay up. This one is weird. It usually has the channel A banner but sometimes it's channel B. I've never seen a combination of guide data.
It doesn't seem to have anything to do with SD/HD MPEG2/4. I could be wrong but if there is a pattern I can't see it

I was thinking that maybe it has to do with satellite or transponder changes so I've started keeping a list of channel A to B transition.

If anyone notices banner goofyness could you take note of the channel A to B? If a pattern emerges maybe it will help track it down.

Once in a while, when I exit a recording(Exit/Stop button or channel number) the channel banner comes up when you get to live TV but the title or both title and channel number belong the the recorded show and not the live TV channel.
