Alright guys. GWV and I were talking last night, and we thought it might be a good idea to get rolling on the first look as per hdtvfan's suggestion. As fast as these boxes are becoming mature, there's no telling how long we'll have to get this together, so we may as well get a jump on it. Obviously, some functionality changes will have to updated as we continue to receive CE's... but at least we can get some of the basics covered for now.

So... I figured a good way to do this may be to have people choose sections... that way, no one has an overwhelming amount of writing to do... and, everyone can be involved.

Going off of the other first looks, here are some ideas for topics to be written on:

    -Intro
    -Packaging
    -Dimensions, Appearance, & Ports
    -From the Outside
    -From the Inside
    -Setup & Activation
    -Observations
    -Comparisons
    -Conclusion

As a reference, here are some other first looks...

    HR21-200 - http://hr20.dbstalk.com/hr21_200_first_look.pdf

    HR20-700 - http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=61862

Just post in this thread which topics you would like to write about. I guess it wouldn't be a bad idea if you wanted to take more than one.. and we could assign a couple different people to each topic. That way, we can get a couple perspectives on each topic, and then combine them together. Once you've completed your writeup, feel free to send it to GWV or myself... and we will begin piecing this together.

I know alot of you guys have taken some great pictures... If you have some pictures you would like to contribute, please PM me and I will give you my email address. I plan on hosting all of the pictures so that we can have them all in one place. I will make it private and provide you guys the link.

I think doing it this way may be pretty cool. That way, everyone can contribute as much as they would like/are able to... I know a lot of you guys are very busy and may not have time to contribute as much as others... which is totally understandable. Just post in this thread what you're able to do.

-700 and -200 guys... feel free to pitch in with tips, tricks, suggestions, do's/don'ts. Hopefully we can live up to the precedent you guys have set for us. :)

How much is expected to be written from scratch vs. leveraged from the 700 and 200? One of the things that strikes me is that these are 98% the same, with few observable differences and aside from the code base currently running are effectively a functionally equivalent hardware platform.

    Just as an FYI....

As the co-author on both the -700 and the -200 First Looks....I can say that you are mostly correct. There are many similarities but also some differences.

I have shared some (hopefully useful) things with these new 2 co-authors as to help jump start their efforts - please note that they now have the many photos all of you have contributed so far in the original thread.

    Good luck guys.

I've spoken with Mike Huss about his pictures... and hdtvfan has a collection from back when we first got our boxes... but i'd still like to collect as many as possible... even if i end up with duplicates from the ones hdtvfan has... that's fine... i'd rather have too many than not enough!

so anyone with pics... please PM me so I can give you my email address... thanks!

Just remember, keep your pictures small. The HR21-200 First Look was a 5MB download.

    Yup.

If the photos can be saved in 1600 X 1200 size or smaller in a JPG format, they will take up much less space.
