    Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, I have both HR20 and HR21 in the same room. I swapped cables and connections but it did not change anything. Actually the first box that I had was buggy, because the second one did not have freezing problem with HD channels, but now the second one has persistent problem with forced downloads. I was able to upgrade the firmware once and since could not do it anymore.

Since you have swapped just about everthing there is to swap except the HDD. Sounds to me like another flacky HR21. Is there any clicking sounds comeing from the HR21 that would be a sign on the HDD being bad.

That is pretty spiffy work there, Bob! This equipment location would never do at houskamp's, however. The proximity of that gas line in the vicinity of the wood mounting board would be entirely too risky! :)

I have not noticed any particular variation in remote responses. Certain things are none too snappy, but certainly acceptable. And I should have mentioned in my post above that my entire favorable experience with the HR21-100 included an eSATA-connected 750gb Seagate Barracuda in an Antec MX-1 enclosure.

You are not the first to have a remote with a rattle, and it's not particular to the one shipped with the -100. The rattle "feature" can be disabled by opening the remote and removing the "rattle activator." :) After you remove the darker gray oval plate which covers the center of the face, you'll see what to do next.....

This has been one of the most stable boxes I have ever hooked up right out of the box.....It has not given me any problem worth mentioning except the guide tearing the other night and that has to be software....The next CE will probably fix it...

I can also report an almost complete lack of issues. It locked up on me once deleting a show and that was it. Very good job DirecTV!!!!

Yep, pretty solid for me, too.
I'm using it interchangeably with my two HR20-700s. Six recording tuners in my theater room is quite awesome. (For nostalgia, there's also a VCR hooked in, gathering dust.)

I agreee with Sockmonkey about the remote. As I recall, it still rattled when I took the batteries out, so there's something else knocking.

Other than some initial problems getting the HR21-100 networked, I've had no problem with the HR21-100 until Tuesday night. I've posted that problem in the issues thread and won't repeat it here, but it's the first major problem I've had with a lost recording in a long time on any of my HR2xs. The HR21-100 has become our primary DVR and is what we usually use to watch recordings, except that we usually watch movies or longer recordings on the HR20-700 which has a 750GB eSATA drive and is now used more as an archival device because of the vastly increased storage.

SAme here. I didn't think I'd use the HR21-100 as much as I do, and once I have the AM21 and OTA, I might relegate the HR20-700 to the bedroom... and move the R15 to .... well you get the picture... time for a DVR shuffle.

Because of the intial problems, wife and kids decided that HR21-100 should be MY box.

Well, I am using it now for all my recordings and viewings and I am pretty happy with it, I just cannot force download of latest CEs on it.

As for me 21-100 has been rock solid from day one except for a few very minor issues. I really think 20-100 is ready for big time. I might have to bring it to the living room.

It's currently in my living room as the secondary receiver. The only thing preventing it from being the main receiver is the lack of updated features. I was out of town for both of the last CE's for this unit, so it doesn't have any of the new UI features.
If we get another CE (or a forced download), it'd probably become my main unit.

I've had ZERO problems with it.

Right now I think my HR21-100 is as good or better than my HR20-700.

I really only have one issue and I don't even know if it exists anymore.

It doesn't miss recordings, it doesn't need to be reset, it just runs and does it's job.
