Show it to Shadow (the Cat). See what he thinks.

My cats are utterly indifferent to electronics except for two noted exceptions:

Cat 1 loves to sit on remotes. If I have lost the remote the chance is excellent it is under the cat.

Also, as mentioned before, Cat 1 yacked profusely on my D10, in a decidedly editorial fashion. Very glad I changed to HR21 in the bedroom where the DVR is out in the open, I was waiting for the other paw to drop on that one.

My wife's comments were pretty simple...

    "Will this one work right?"

and to show I'm not always so mean, I replied.

    "I hope so...it sure seems they're trying."

My setups are pretty neat...I'm kind of a wire/cable organization nut...but I do have a young son who can get twelve knots in a 3 inch cable in under two minutes.

Mrs. Shadow, who is always very supportive, likes the HR21's looks. We'll see how it works.

I'll be loading up all my season passes tonight since the guide wasn't quite populated yesterday afternoon. This will put it to work .. As for commentary, all my wife and daughter said were "Another one?"

That is a need to know question! Are you sure you are suppose to be in this forum? I thought the HR21-700 was released! Not sure if I should even be responding to this, huuuuum!

    Actually Robert,
I have to bring my work tools home to get this open. I started to open it up last night and used some pliers to take the screws out until I got to the side screws. Pliers don't work so good on the indented portions of the case.

I don't have any of the goo to put the heat sink back on .. I also didn't look closely, but I didn't see anything to pull the heat sink tight to the chip. It's gotta be there, but I was busy adding splitters to my setup and didn't get the chance to really check out the HR21-200 motherboard.

My eSATA should arrive tomorrow afternoon. If I put it on, what firmware is it going to find in the stream? I don't want to revert back to 18, since I have just gotten the new one from last night. At the same time, I want to get to testing the eSATA on the -200 right away.

Anyone know what will happen after I put the eSATA in tomorrow afternoon? It's going to go look for firmware...what will it find?

You will still have 0x16D. The sofware is saved to the chip in the HR21 not the hard drive.

Well, I guess I should have paid better attention to the -700 SATA cable replacement a few weeks ago :(

In the true spirit of not being a slacker ...

Just gently shutdown the HR21-200, moved the box to a nice lighted area, got the camera, pulled out the TORX set that I've used for years, all ready to go ...

Clunk! What? ARGH! There's a security pin in the middle. I need the Torx security set! Geez ...

Now, not only a slacker ... but also a newbie as well ... geez, gotta go get a TORX security set ...

    Sixto the Slacker :( :(

Kewl! I had no idea....I somehow got the impression early on when reading the eSATA threads that it had to go out and get a new version. That is very good news.

    Thanks

    Lower...
Got mine today and probably won't be able to hook it up for a day or two. Haven't had a chance to read the whole thread yet. Is the second RJ-45 port bridged, by any chance? Or just there for "future use"? /steve

Ok, now $5.99 lighter but have Torx security set!

RobertE, what photo's you want ... and I ain't taking off any heatsink :)

Just looked thru the photo's in this thread and they're mostly the needed photo's ... full internal view, harddisk, mother board, power supply.

The heat sink in the middle is covering the BCM7401C1 chip. There's a label right next to the heat sink.

The other Broadcom chip at the edge under the Seagate DB35 320GB harddrive is the BCM5325 Ethernet controller.

    What else you looking for?
