Same problem 2 times. Audio stuttering on live OTA after exiting a recording.

Thursday night - recording 2 programs (OTA 4-1, Survivor and SAT HDLiL 8 - American Idol - at 7pm central) and watching a recording. When I exited to live (OTA 4-1 while the recording was in progress) the audio was breaking up badly (stuttering) and I had to pause then play to correct. I rewound to check and it recorded properly.

This evening - watching a recording and no other activity going on. When I exited to live (OTA, but don't recall the channel) the audio was breaking up badly (stuttering) and I had to pause/play to correct again.

HR21 locked up this morning. It was on pause of live tv. No response to any remote commands. RBR fixed it. BTW during the storms the other night AM21 worked. We got lots of pix. but im pretty far from orlando too

Ok so during the reboot process loading again stopped at 90% complete, and went to live tv. It did not finish to 100%. Also there was about a 4 second delay with a black scrren. With no sound either. It was on espnhd. after it has come up all seems well.

add me to the stutter on live OTA group.. watched some 17-1 this morning and had to pause it to stabalize it..
other than that it's been recording/playing ok..
can't wait for it to catch up to my 20-700s... they are so much faster and great having my music working :)

Noticed stutter/dropouts last night. About every 30 seconds or so a quick dropout/stutter, just long enough to trip the surround system.

I'll just add my experience with regard to trick-play being sluggish.

On my HR20s (both 700 & 100), if I'm watching a recording or live I can press FF three times to fast forward through commercials, etc. On the HR21-700 if I press FF three times, there is a few seconds delay before anything happens, then the status bar comes up at 1x and I again have to press FF twice to get to 3x. The response time for the button pushes also seem to take longer than on the HR20s. This has happened on both OTA HD channels/recordings and MPEG4 HD sat channels/recordings. I don't think I've been recording much MPEG2 HD or SD stuff on my HR21.

This is not just an FF thing, but all trick-play functions. It is similarly sluggish when pressing the Guide button and List buttons. I've also noticed quite a lag time when using the red button delete - especially when you hit the OK to delete option, it takes several seconds (8-10 or more?) before anything actually processes.

ISSUE: Taking a long time for audio to lock in when starting a recording.

When starting a recording I'm getting no audio for sometimes up to 2 minutes into a recording.

I used the term "lock in" above because while I have no audio I can look at my A/V receiver and watch it going back and forth between analog and digital audio trying to lock in on a signal.

I actually haven't been experiencing any lockups or dropouts to speak of. So don't be too surprised if you find that you aren't, either.

It's been pretty quiet on the homefront here as well, for what it's worth.

I've had a couple of strange freezes yesterday and tonight.
Last night, I went to watch the MotoGP race that was recorded earlier in the day from SpeedHD. The playback would start, the picture would freeze within seconds but the audio would continue for a couple of seconds, then freeze as well. Trick plays forward and reverse all worked correctly, but couldn't watch the recording that way.
Tonight, I tuned to NGCHD to watch a show about New York, and, live TV now, I saw the same thing, except that the audio continued to play.
So, I have seen this issue on both recorded and live broadcasts. I haven't had time to check the HR20's for the same issue on the MotoGP race.
Other than the still sluggish guide response, this is the only issue I've had.

So, Tfed, the baby's getting used to life on the outside now?

Your Speed problem is probably the same issue many people with the HR21 are having, it's caused by the signals from the RF cameras used by Speed.

I didn't have the problem with SPEEDHD on Friday night or Saturday, when I watched the Supercross and Daytona 200, both live.
Tonight, SPEEDHD and NGHD are confirmed to be freezing video, while audio continues. I haven't checked any other channels, but the local OTA's are NOT affected, nor are the spot-beamed locals.
And MotoGP was a telecast bought from another source and tape delayed, not shown live by speedTV.
    Theory: POOF:nono:

    Littleton,...
I had a lockup during the shuttle launch last night on HD net. Tried to change the channel to NASA during the launch and it locked up tight. It cleared after a couple of minutes but by then the shuttel was already in orbit. :(

This weekend I purchased a Sony 55" XBR4 TV and have it hooked up via HDMI. The picture is wonderful but I see no difference with the picture and audio dropouts I had with my S-video 480i SD set. Standard practice is now to pause live tv a few seconds before watching. I would really like to see this fixed.

Ok, I am back home and my AM21 has been off for 58 hours. It turned on fine and no lockups.

But, I have one question. On one of my subchannels that is pegged out at 77%. It has great picture but no sound. I have always had this problem with this channel even on the HR20. Why is this? This channel comes in great on my tv tuner. Great picture and sound. If I remember correctly I have seen other post a while back in the regular thread with people reporting the same problem with this channel. I just wonder why the Directv receivers seem to have this issue with this channel and tv tuners don't?
