I have been reading and reading these OTA threads and they have sort of got me excited for OTA reception so I am going to have an antenna put up so I can come over the the dark side and see what OTA locals I actually DO get....hehe

Thanks Wayne......Now for my first dumb question......Can I use a diplexer after the mutilswitch combining the OTA and sat feeds into one cable and then use a second diplexor inside the room to split the two signals back into two separate cables ?...

more specifically a Terk BDSP1 Satellite Diplexer

houskamp, unless I am reading your setup incorrectly, you are doing exactly what I asked about with a diplexor and not a swm module....you are running the ota directly into your tv and not the HR21-700 so I guess you are saying that in order to run the ota into the HRx it would need an swm module but not to run it directly into the TV ?

    Wow that was confusing
but any ways... the swm lines have the ota diplexed on the main line.. the 21 is fed from the wb68 but the bbcs are remote mounted (both diplexers between the 21 and bbc)

    Teays...
What would really be a test of the device is if the HR21 could SCAN for all locals in range.!Devil_lol

I run the SWM5 with a diplexer, and have the single cable with sat and OTA outputs together running to 2 HR20's...

Let me ask you guys something, maybe Tom or Earl could answer positve either way...

A friend gets HDTV via his antenna straight to his TV. He has DIRECTV and wants an HD DVR. Chances are he'll probably get an HR21. Would it be safe to tell him that an OTA solution would be GA in 3-6 months?

That would seem a reasonable timeframe, but as with the launch of D10, there are a lot of variables and I wouldn't expect anyone is going to make definitive statements like that until things are nearing step 990 of 1000 toward full deployment.

For comparison, how long has SWM been in trials and/or "beta".

Though I'm optimistic that an OTA tuner would be available more quickly given the "rush" to market that DirecTV has done with the HR21s (needed to rush to meet demand).

If it's a better tuner than the HR20s my 21 will be going on the main tv :D

    Kingsville,T...
AM21 - ATSC Tuner Add for the HR21 line
-) The unit is going to be the same width and depth as the HR21.
-) It is approx 1" high
-) Same Gloss Black finish, and molding as the HR21
-) USB Connectivity to the HR21
-) Passthrough power supply... so one cord, for both the AM21 and HR21.

    Sounds like a nice unit.
