Be sure to monitor the threads and The DBSTalk Chat Room to check on final availability.

You will need to force the update tonight, but DO NOT under any circumstances allow a version less that 0x25E to be loaded onto your receiver. If you force the download at the wrong time, then you will be getting the "old" (NR) HR21-700 firmware which is 0x255.

When the download screen appears, wait for "Found New Software" .. once you see this and the download bar is moving, look at the version number. If the version number is NOT 0x25E or higher, then press the Red Button immediately. If you download a lower version number, you *WILL* brick your box (not permanently but it will be bricked for now).

I don't have time to play with it tonight since I have to work in the morning but all seems to have gone well.
I'll feel much better though when the current CE goes national, that will give us a fall back in case we get a bad CE.
I know it's not that likely but it could happen & we can't go with the current national release without bricking our boxes.

Weird network issue. My HR23 and HR20 both connect to the network via a Linksys EZXS55W Switch. When I went to check network connectivity, I had no fortunes on either. I looked and saw that the Link/Activity lights for the HR20, HR23 and switch itself were all cycling in unison - on a few seconds and then out. I had to unplug the switch and plug it back in, then normal network activity resumed.

The HR21 and HR20 connected directly to the network were fine.

Issue: Watched my wife playback a recording of John Edwards Cross Country recorded from WeTV Saturday, September 6, 2008.

Noticed the audio was considerably off. My wife SKIPED BACK once and the audio synced.

Seems everything has slowed down. Channel changes are slow, GUIDE press takes a long time before the GUIDE actually comes on and shows up. HD channels are, of course, slower than SD channels. Might just be me. That's been known to happen too. :)

HD to SD Channel Change Issue

When I change channels from an HD to an SD channel, I occasionally get a distorted image on the SD channel. I can move up or down a channel and it usually goes away and fixes itself but it's cropped up quite often. The highest resolution I have it on is 1080i and I'm changing it down to a 480p. SD output resolution. Here are pictures... In pic 1, you can see the lines at the top and bottom of the screen. Also, the picture is usually mostly grey. The second picture is after I've changed channels and returned. There's no picture because of the timing of the shot - commercial. ;)

Sorry, I always forget the Report. Hopefully it's not too late. I'll try to make it happen again before I send it...

Report #: 20080915-1F08 (As I send this, it's on a channel that is causing the problem. I came from HBOHD 501 to the current channel and have the screen trouble.

    Report #20080914-124A

While viewing 2 SD recordings yesterday ("The Golden Girls", "M*A*S*H"), The picture returns in slo-mo after using 30skip, I don't know if this is supposed to happen if the skip is held, but I am trying not to hold it. I can duplicate the problem only sometimes.

Unable to access sub menu's under "Music" via WMP.

I must say that I can now access sub menu's under pictures and playlists which is nice. Although that is hit or miss, sometimes they will open, other times I get an error message and have to exit Media Share and try again.

Still cannot play any YouTube video's via TVersity. Also cannot seem to access sub menu's under photos via TVersity, again sometimes they open most times they don't.

No big issues found yet. And for the first time that I can recall, the "Music Photos & More" menu item was available immediately after the reboot. Usually it takes a while for it to appear. Fortunes appeared immediately too. I noticed the same behavior on my HR20-700 as well. A fluke? Who knows.

About the only thing I've noticed so far is the clunky way the HR2x's tune channels when accessed via the guide - you get a flash of the current station, flash of the guide background, then tune the new channel. Same thing I've noted for the past few CE's.

Box has been getting slower and slower. Guide is super slow, response to remote is really bad. While watching with Directv 2 PC it will suddenly come up and say it lost the server and it never finds it again. Whatever recording I was watching with the PC program comes up with the delete prompt right away when watching it on the receiver until I reboot it it also comes back on Directv 2 PC.

    Just a general observation:

Time to scroll through 85 channels in guide on HR21-200: 43 seconds
Time to scroll through same 85 channels in guide on HR23-700: 72 seconds.

Add me to the list of slowing machines. I find my self switching to an HR20 (mirrors the hr23) because of slow response to remote. I know it was different CEs but I still miss my pre-production model.

Reading your post reminds me that I noticed this too. On the HR23 as well as my HR20-700. This is the first CE I noticed this on, but then I missed the previous two because I was working night those days. Definitely "clunky".

Slightly on the same topic, all of my old legacy receivers used to keep the channel number superimposed on the PIG while in the guide. I know the HR2Xs only show the current channel for a few seconds. I know it's silly, but I miss seeing my currently tuned channel the whole time I am in the guide. :)

I wonder if there are any differences in cpu speed or the amount of memory inside...maybe D* is trying to save money this way? I don't know much about programming but a 29 second difference between boxes that are supposedly "the same" seems large...

I know +1's are frowned upon in issue threads but you can add me to the list of slowing machines. Our HR20-700 is in the master and my wife said (last night), "when can me move the silver DVR back into the great room?"

I really try to seperate perception from reality but my pre-production unit seemed much quicker.

Remote response has been very sluggish. The Guide and Playlist are both slow to come up and paging is very slow.

Sometimes it doesn't respond to button presses even though I can see the power light flicker when I press it.

Paging through the Guide takes about twice along as my HR21-100.

Especially frustrating is the Dash button. In the Playlist I will double press the Dash, see the power light flicker, the nothing happens.

I have to wait 5-10 and then hit the up or down arrow to make sure it isn't going delete the program before I try again.

I do this because the delay in response has caused my wife to delete a second program because they didn't think it took the first of her unseen GH episodes....Ungood....

I was watching a DVR recorded show, then went to MediaShare and viewed a YouTube video through my MediaServer running TVersity. The entire video played fine, but at the end when it exited it said that it couldn't play it (even though I watched the whole thing).

DVR exited to PIG showing the previous recorded show that I was watching, however I couldn't do ANY trick plays. I had to actually go into My Playlist and select the show that I was already watching in order to restore Trick Play functionality.
