Be sure to monitor the threads and The DBSTalk Chat Room to check on final availability.

You will need to force the update tonight, but DO NOT under any circumstances allow a version less that 0x25E to be loaded onto your receiver. If you force the download at the wrong time, then you will be getting the "old" (NR) HR21-700 firmware which is 0x255.

When the download screen appears, wait for "Found New Software" .. once you see this and the download bar is moving, look at the version number. If the version number is NOT 0x25E or higher, then press the Red Button immediately. If you download a lower version number, you *WILL* brick your box (not permanently but it will be bricked for now).

On choosing CNN from 102, News Mix, the resolution doesn't change to 1080i from 720P; I had to manually change it. CNN is transmitted in 1080i and that's the resolution that it usually changes to when selecting it via direct input. A few channel changes also corrects it. The exit key is not functional from 102, the DVR ignores it.

    Trickplay Issue

    Report #: 20080920-2995

I was watching an item from my Playlist and push and held REPLAY so it would restart at the beginning. It was an HD movie from STARZ. I was able to navigate around the menus and other things but I was unable to get the movie to STOP, REW, FFWD, or any normal commands except that PLAY brought up the bar at the bottom. I was finally able to get out of the movie with EXIT push. Report submitted.

NOTE: This also happened while trying to stop the pre-recorded show I mentioned in post #5 below. Another mention is that I had this issue both times while on an XM Radio station. I'll try while on a normal broadcast station.

UPDATE: Using Trickplay appears to work (still quite slow on response) while I'm on a normal broadcast station. While on XM radio channels and accessing a saved recording appears to cause trickplay issues.

NOTE2: I really like the new screen saver on the XM channels though!! :D

    30s SLIP Issue

    Report: 20080920-10C9

I'm watching another Playlist program that was recorded Thursday and am finding that the 30s Slip is extremely slow to respond to pushes. I push SLIP and it takes atleast 3 seconds for a reaction. It doesn't stack up until the 30s SLIP begins (after the 3 seconds).

NOTE: Report above did not submit after several attempts, see below.

    Diagnostic Report Issue

While attempting to send above Report, it failed twice. I'm not sure if there is trouble on the DIRECTV end or my end. A report was sent earlier this morning so there could just be an issue on DIRECTV's side. I'll report what I've got going just to be sure.

I'm watching a pre-recorded program and another program appears to be recording at this time. I was attempting to send the Report while still watching the pre-recorded program. I will stop the pre-recorded program and re-attempt to send the Report.

UPDATE: I was finally able to send Report #: 20080920-3231 once the normal programming was resumed (live TV).

Slow response to remote ... for example:
    1) Hit "guide" button and wait 3-5 sec for something to come on screen.
    2) While in the guide, press "record" button on a show and wait 2-4 sec for a response saying the item will be recorded (a popup). If immediately after the pressing the record (before the popup comes up) you try to "arrow" around, nothing happens. Even after the popup comes up, if you press the arrow keys, sometimes it takes a second or more before you can start "moving" and your arrow keys are ignored. (or trying to press record the second time to do a SL ... does not take, must wait a few seconds for popup to come up first...)
    3) Even if just going into the guide and "arrowing around" it is in "slow motion" ... hit up arrow 2 times quickly and you move up 1 spot, wait a split second, then move up the second .

    many other examples....

A good amount of "ripping and tearing" in the guide. Seems more than in past releases. (I am downloading VOD right now so I don't know if that is contributing...)

Reported in main forum as HR21-700, but is actually HR23-700.

During playback of content recorded prior to 0x27D, when pressing "info", pressing "select" for more info does not work. I have tested this on 10 or 11 different shows. Sometimes the stop button does not stop playback, but the more info problem happens every time. Recordings made after download work without issue.

I'm watching a recording of "Discovery Project Earth", ch278 DSCHD, 12SEP08.

When I hit the Info button and hit Select for "More Info" it get nothing. It will not go to the more info screen.

Upon further investigation, it turns out that I can't get to the "More Info" screen from the Info banner for a recording.

It works for live TV but not for recordings.

I only checked about 10 recording so I can't say it is for all of them but I made sure I checked recording both before and after the current CE. In every case it would not go to "More Info" from the Info banner.

Edit: I can access the Info screen by pressing Select while in the Playlist.

I have the same exact problem. I usually delete a show when I am near the end by going into "info" and choosing the 'delete' function, but I cannot access anything from a recorded show when I press 'info' and select.

When I change channels the screen flashes green and sometimes goes grey or black for a couple of seconds before the picture returns.

When the screen goes grey/black the audio will start before the picture.

I'm not sure that this report went through, as the screen exited abruptly back to live tv instead of giving me a continue button.
Stop key on the remote does not stop the recording; I must use the exit button to stop.

I'm having the same problem as others regarding ff & rew trickplay. Long hesitation from initial press to where progress bar shows on screen and another long hesitation from 2nd press to 2nd speed; then remaining presses go to 3rd and 4th speed. Also, a slight 2 second pause once the program begins to play. This is happening with all recorded programing. Don't know about live; I'll have to test later.

    Report #20080921-1905

Also having the "more info" problem... while viewing a recorded program and press "info"button, banner comes up, but when pressing "select" for "More info" nothing happens.

    Report ID: 20080922-28b8

While "The Big Bang Theory" was recording (around 0:15 minutes in), my family started watching it (WBBM-DT, CH2, CBS-Chicago) to find that the "actor voices" were much lower in volume than the "laughing/applauding audience" (or background) volume.

I did check my Standard Def Tivo unit quickly to find that the volume was "normal".

Made watching very difficult because you have to turn the volume way up but every time the audience laughed, it was overwhealmingly loud!

    Add-On / Update:
    2) After recording stopped, live tv shifted to a second show that was recording on a different channel. I then changed channel back to Ch.2 (about 20 minutes after the show with the problem finished) and found the sound to be correct.

    Radio Enginerd checking in...

I apologize for the lack of diagnostic reports but I have a laundry list of observations and notations.

1st: My wife reports that she was watching a SD playback and she said after several SKIPS, she informed me that the audio and video were completely off by 10+ seconds. Not even the same scene. She said a few SKIPS back seemed to resolve the issue.

2nd: We're recording Dancing With The Stars right now MPEG-4 HD and our box is painfully slow. 4-7 seconds delay when pressing keystrokes. Scrolling through the playlist and guide are seriously delayed and the box is acting like a Vista machine with 512MB of RAM. Sorry to be so blunt but my box has some serious issues. Night and day difference to my pre-production model... I'd actually pay to have it back. :)

I am starting to wonder if I should disconnect my network connection... any thoughts?

I'll send a diagnostics report when we're done watching the recording.

I had the voice off by about 5 seconds when I flipped to "Smallville" live last Thursday. Flipping channels back and fourth didn't help. Ultimately, I had to rewind 6 seconds so the DVR could buffer both the audio and video to sync them up. It happened one other time earlier in the week. I haven't seen it happen since this last CE though.

Turned on the TV this afternoon (HR23 was off). It has "live buffered" 90 minutes. The channel was on CNBCHD (CH 355) the night before and was still there this morning. Congressional hearing on the "bailout plan" was on and I wanted to back up to the beginning. It was around 11:10 am locally. I hit record to get the show from 11:00-1:00 (Power Lunch) to record. The timeline showed the show being recorded (turned the orangish red) from 11:00 to present.

I then proceeded to "backup" to get to the beginning of the hearing (around 10:15 I believe). I was able to rewind, but the timeline did not, it stopped at 11:00. I kept rewinding until around 10:15 and started to play. I tried to "record" that previous show by hitting "record" but it kept giving the "failure/not possible" sound and nothing showed up on the playlist. (The "Power Lunch" show was there.)

Bottom line, I could watch the show but the timeline was not working and I could not record the show as I have done in the past.

At the end of a group play, the screen returns to the playlist with a frozen PIG of the last frame of the group play. It only returns to the current live channel by hitting exit twice.
