    Window of opportunity to download:
    Friday, October 3, 2008 11:00PM - 2:30AM ET
    Saturday, October 4, 2008 11:00PM - 2:30AM ET

Be sure to monitor the threads and The DBSTalk Chat Room to check on final availability.

You will need to force the update tonight, but DO NOT under any circumstances allow a version less that 0x25E to be loaded onto your receiver. If you force the download at the wrong time, then you will be getting the "old" (NR) HR21-700 firmware which is 0x255.

When the download screen appears, wait for "Found New Software" .. once you see this and the download bar is moving, look at the version number. If the version number is NOT 0x25E or higher, then press the Red Button immediately. If you download a lower version number, you *WILL* brick your box (not permanently but it will be bricked for now).
In order to participate, you must read and agree to the CE Rules, Faq and Tips Thread... here.

Downloading pre-release software means that we all work together to report bugs and potential solutions. While everyone gets upset from time to time, please remember this is not the appropriate place for vents or rants. Therefore, please keep all posts in this thread to issues only. You may, of course, open a discussion thread for other discussion, constructive criticism, and problem solving, but this thread is monitored by DIRECTV for bug reporting only. All off-topic posts and discussion will be deleted.

We ask that you keep polite and focused within this thread, and post as much detail as possible. If your receiver is set up for network issue reporting, please post the key generated by the receiver (For more information, click here.) Please continue to submit all examples of black or gray recordings here.

      • Keep or Delete only appears at end of recording (softpad or otherwise)
      • There will be no indication on trickplay bar of softpad
      • Record light is off during softpad activity
      • Softpad cannot be disabled
      • Trickplay features can be used to navigate softpad buffer if it exists.
    • 06 - SUPERSKIPTOTICK - When on, if in FF or REW mode {REPLAY} will jump to the previous tick mark and {ADVANCE} will jump to the next tick mark, {PLAY} returns playback to PLAY mode.
    • [STRIKE]06 - Have a happy Labor Day weekend. :)[/STRIKE]
    • 09 - Softpad feature will take on the following characteristics:
      • 30s before, 90s after
      • User or Timer initiated recordings take priority
      • Playback starts at scheduled start time, not at start of softpad
      • Keep or Delete only appears at end of recording (softpad or otherwise)
      • There will be no indication on trickplay bar of softpad
      • Record light is off during softpad activity
      • Softpad cannot be disabled
      • Softpad will normally not occur on foreground tuner (Live TV)
      • Back-to-back recordings with no conflict (without softpad) will both record on background tuner without OSD
      • If a normal recording causes a conflict, an OSD appears. Three things can happen:
        • Cancel Recording - The scheduled recording is canceled
        • Authorize Recording - softpad will not take place but program will record
        • Ignore OSD - softpad will occur on foreground tuner. The assumption here is that the user is not watching.
      • Box is in standby, softpad will occur on foreground tuner.
      • You can utilize the trickplay features to move through any softpad buffer.
    • 10 - Customer Candidate
    • 11 - you must re-enter IAMANEDGECUTTER keyword search to access hidden features

Please Note: Reverting back to National will delete all recordings made with this version of code.

Also Note: When reporting issues with 1080p, please include the TV resolution information reported from the Miscellaneous Options screen. New poll thread: HR2x {CE:15:10} Can you play the 1080p VOD?

Network services appear to work properly as I have cookies. Re-ran I am an edgecutter and option menu is active. When running the system test, the tests go through their nornmal sequence, but there is no report out for network services. Network sercives do appear in the network setup menu. There was a report out for Network services on 0x0281, but it has disappeared on 0x0286. This lack of reporting on the system test is common to all four of my boxes, two HR20-700, one HR21-700 and this HR23-700.

It is taking several seconds for the HR23 to respond to the remote.

I hit Guide and after several seconds I hit it again and the Guide flashed and then it when to the Guide filter screen. Implying that it accepted both button presses even though it took along time to respond.

List takes a long time to respond also.

I hit Guide then search around it and exit the Guide back to what ever I was watching.

Then if with in a few minutes I go back to the Guide it comes up rather quickly. If I keep doing this it keeps responding relatively quickly.

If I wait for a longer period of time, say a half- hour, then press Guide it takes a long time to respond.

It's as if the functionality for Guide/List goes to sleep after a while and then comes back when I want to use it.

    On another note, Media Share.

I have TVersity video transcoding set for 1280x720. However, if I happen to be on a SD channel when I start a Media Share video it will be in 480p. If I'm on a HD channel, the Media Share video will be in what ever resolution the channel is in.

I tried changing the transcoding resolutions but I only get what ever resolution the current channel the HR23 is on.

    DL'ed 0x0286 last night.
    Diagnostic Report: 20081004-15E5

    • Remote sensitivity still doesn't seem right. I have tested with my Harmony and my RC64R and the box seems slow to respond to IR commands. I also notice it being hit or miss when I go to turn things on and off.
    • Guide and playlist scrolling (browsing) still seems to lag as well. I'm not sure what the general population will think but compared to my HR20-700, it's a bit of a "dog" for lack of a better word.
    • 30 SEC SKIP yields sputtering playback ever so often. No real pattern found although I see it on SD playback mostly.
    • Trick play Issues: Last CE I disabled 480p from my native resolution list and that seems to have stabilized the odd trick play issues I was reporting earlier (last week). I am however still getting the sputtering SD playback after a few 30 SEC SKIPS.

    Diagnostics Report 20081004-2861

    Error Code 301

My Network Services is not working either in automatic or manual. First time this has occurred for me as I have never had the first problem with network connections on either the HR23-700 or the HR20-700.

I do have connection to the internet, and everything is working but Network Services. I downloaded some DOD, so no problems there.

Not technically an issue but no problems with the network this week, even though I ran the update via slingbox which has been a guaranteed problem in the past.

At about 11:14am, I was watching the Travel Channel when I got a popup asking to change the channel to record "The Fantastic Four:Rise of the Silver Surfer", HBOWHD. Not unusual because it was already recording "The Ultimate Trailer Show" on HDNET.

I hit select to allow it to record the movie.

I went to the List and started watching "The Ultimate Trailer Show".

At about 11:38am I finished watching "The Ultimate Trailer Show" and after deleting it I returned to live TV.

The live buffer was clear and it was on the Travel Channel.

I would have expected it to be on HBOWHD or possibly on HDNET but not on the Travel Channel.

And Yes, it recorded all of "The Ultimate Trailer Show" and was currently recording "The Fantastic Four:Rise of the Silver Surfer".

I don't know if it is really a problem but is weird. I really think this problem is unique to SWM as I've never heard anyone but me report it. That plus I've never seen it do this before I got the SWMLine.

    It's a theory.

For some reason everytime I pull up any UI element (Guide, Info panel, etc.) - the small 'Please Wait' progress dialog in the right lower (without any animation) is also being shown.

I think the sequence was last night I watched a recorded show and it finished. Then we went to bed and for some reason this morning I hit left arrow and that went back into the playlist item and I believe that is when it started throwing up the dialog on each screen.

HR23 listed as HR21 System 1b in sig
    Diagnostic Report: 20081005-2761

Issue: Manual padding is not set off in progress bar on playback. In the past, manual padding used to be designated on the progress bar by a smaller orange line after a line break, but it now just blends with the regular program time.

Not a biggie, but different than past behavior and not mentioned as a change. I had recorded The Amazing Race and padded it an hour for football runover. When I watched it tonight, I noticed the bar issue.

Also, the guide is not clearing smoothly when selecting a program to view from the guide. It still clears, flashes the prior program, flashes the guide background then tunes. Really annoying.

Not necessarily an issue, per se.... but Mediashare seems to behave differently on my HR23 than it does on my HR20.

When I access "Music, Photos and More" on my Hr20, using a Mediatomb install I just got running, I see "PC Directory" and "All Photos". PC Directory allows me to browse the directory structure of my photo storage. All photos just shows all the photos.

I have no audio on the server, yet. I thought that I had no video, but the Hr23 reveals differently.

On the HR23, an audio and video selection show up. Audio returns an error "cannot access media". Video shows that I have some video clips in with our photos - ones that were taken from cameras, either my wife's or her parents, I could imagine.

At any rate, the two machines show very different results when accessing the same media server....

Also... do any of you have an HR20 and an HR23 in the same location? I do not, so I can't do a test, but the trickplay on the HR23 seems to be WAY faster than on my HR20. I use 3x or 4x FF on my HR20, with regularity. On the HR23, I find myself using 2x FF mostly. 3xFF seems to zip by too fast.

I got up this morning and found the receiver completely unresponsive to both the remote and front panel. I tried my universal and the RC64.

I had to do a RBR to get the system back.

The power light didn't even flicker when I pressed a button on the remote.

The Diagnostic Report is post RBR.

Oddly I found both my HR21-100 and the HR23-700 completely unresponsive.

I suppose it may not be so odd since they basically have both the same CE.

The receiver was showing live TV even though trickplay wouldn't work. It was on the channel I expected and up to date.

HR23 (and HR20-100) were unresponsive to the remote and the front panel controls this morning. RBR did nothing. Had to unplug for 15 minutes. When I plugged it back in and went through the boot up, the history had no mention of my scheduled recordings from midnight on to current time. Unlike the HR20-100, I did not have to repeat IAMANEDGECUTTER.
