Was just told by a high level person @ DTV that the HR24-100 has been discontinued. The remaining versions will be the HR24-200 and the HR24-500.

Now bear in mind that at any level at DTV that one can ask the same question 5 times and get 6 different answers so this may or may not be true.

If it is true then DTV has discontinued the HR24-100 version which has proved to be reliable and works and plays well with remotes, AM21s, and external eSATA drives in favor of the HR24-500 which has proven to not work and play well with remotes (stuttering), AM21s, and external eSATA drives.

So now instead of praying you get an HR24-100 you can pray you get a Wednesday HR24-500 and not a Monday or Friday one.

Also hoping the DTV engineers can get these HR24-500 problems resolved with a software spool in the near future.

I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm saying this is the first I've heard of it. It would surprise me because Technicolor, who makes the -100s, has been the "go-to" manufacturer for quite some time. I get the feeling they produce the same hardware at lower prices than [strike]Pace[/strike]Humax (-500s) or Samsung (-200.)

They may be taking a manufacturing break to make other products for DIRECTV, like the new TiVo (which we believe to be a -100 product) or something else we aren't seeing publicly yet.

This is not the first time this has happened. I believe it was the R15-500 that was mothballed for about a year and then a new order placed.

Now, I have an HR24-500 and an HR24-200 and the -500 has given me zero problems. The -200, well I did have a drive issue but it's feeling much better now.

I'd like to see that verified somehow...and find it highly unlikely.

Technicolor is still manufacturing various hardware for DirecTV...so it makes no sense.

Exactly why I believe it is true.

Regardless, it is either true or not and time will tell.

Is 500 Pace? I thought that Pace was 700 and Humax was 500. I could be wrong though.

As Stuart said, it could be DIRECTV is ordering other equipment from Technicolor right now and will put in another order for HR24-100s when needed.

    Cheers,
    Tom

You are correct, you could be wrong. But you are wrong, you were not wrong.

    Pace is 700. :)

    Cheers,

The HR24-100 is alive and well .. No need for a funeral.

Not sure where you got your info about AM21s not working with HR24-500s. My AM21 has been connected to my HR24-500 since the day the HR24 -500 came out. It has not had one problem with viewing, recording, playback, MRV etc.

Both subeluvr and I have had problems with external HDD on the 500s. Can't say anything about the AM21s, don't use them. But the problems with the external drives and the 500s are real.

Regarding the problems... my first hand experience and comments on this forum and other forums around the net including the official DirecTV Tech Forum.

Doesn't seem to be all HR24-500s that have problems. Some do and some don't. Some have one problem and others have the remote and eSATA and AM21 problems and some work perfectly.

My HR24-500 is blessed with all the affliction while my HR24-100 works flawlessly.

The remote stuttering on my HR24-500 is particularly infuriating.

If your HR24-500 is problem free I envy you. Enjoy it rather than question those of us with HR24-500s that are having problems.

My -500 works just fine with my AM21 and an eSATA drive. Your assumption is inaccurate.

I had my first 500 go completely berserk, my second one kept crashing and my third one did the same thing. When it happens to me three times and I fix it by putting the same model HDD inside the box, I would hardly call that an oddity. There was something wrong with all three of my 500s and they all showed the same initial symptoms, I just let the first one go too long. I was one of the first to try an EARS HDD. That failed within a minute or so and I quickly returned it. Would you call that an oddity? We all know there was a problem with the EARS when they were introduced.

What I saw those three 500s do was symptomatic of an incompatibility with either the TT docking station or the EVDS drive or the HRs' SATA ports. I don't know which it was, but you have to see that when three devices do the same thing and are corrected by doing something different there is definitely a problem. And I certainly don't think it was an oddity. I have no control over what other people do, I just happened to mention it in my post. I think the other person I referred to used a TT and an EURS drive and it wasn't recognized by the 500.

Far more people than two have reported remote problems, eSATA incompatibility, and AM21 problems with HR24-500s if you care to take the time to read around this forum.

As fond as I am of this forum and find the people here friendly and helpful (for the most part) the axis of the universe does not run through DBStalk.com. If you take the time to read other forums INCLUDING the DirecTV Tech Forum you will find many reports of exactly the problems problems I am relaying with my HR24-500.

The fact that your HR24-500 may work properly, if you even have one or you might just be offering an uninformed opinion, is a less significant sampling than the people reporting problems in all the forums.

And you should realize that forums are loaded with issues because who's going to start topics praising working units?

Edit: I'm not dismissing that there's issues.
