HR24-200 Internal Temp Causing Reboots?

My HR24-200 has been rebooting itself almost daily for more than a week. Tonight it occurred to me that I don't hear the fan going on in the unit. System info said the internal temperature was 129 degrees, but the fan still wasn't running.

How hot do these things get before the fan kicks on? Isn't heat a likely reason for the frequent spontaneous restarts?

Forgive me for intruding into your team's efforts...

But as a word of comfort...those are some strange symptoms...but not all that unusual during a new unit trial/field test period.

Just as points of reference...having been on the HR24-100 test team...that unit runs pretty steady at 112-113 degrees here. I really have to work to even hear the unit or the fan.

The HR20's I used to have regularly ran in the 124 degree range. I've seen 2 HR24-500's run in the 118 degree range.

Since your group is getting another update this weekend, perhaps if it continues after that update, perhaps it is a good idea to simply report it in the issues thread. Make sure to include a diagnostic report number in your post there.

    Happy testing!

Trust me, all the reboots have been properly reported in the issues thread. I'm just wondering how hot the 200s get before the fan starts going?

Should be well before 129. Does the fan spool up when the box reboots? Have you run any of the diagnostic tests? I think there is one for temp/fan.

I haven't tried any of the diagnostic tests. I just brought it out of standby this minute and its showing a temp of 120, so maybe the fan does kick on from time to time.

It sounds like the heat is the cause of your reboots... it's just a question of whether that's a software or hardware issue.

May I presume this is being kept in a well-ventilated place with nothing on top of it?

Yes it's completely in the open with ample ventilation space. More important, I think, it's been in the same spot since the beginning of the field test and the reboots only started about 10 days ago.

As of this moment, it's been about 44 hours since the last reboot, which is as long as it has gone without rebooting in some time.

    This one's pretty weird, huh?

One other point, so far today the temp hasn't climbed above 122. I'm checking it about every 15 or 20 minutes.

I'll have to look at my -200 tonight but I think it stays below 110°.

I work mine pretty hard, and I've never seen it above 110 degrees. I did notice a lot more fan noise from the HR24-200 then from either of my HR-21's, not excessive, but noticeable when I had it in the bedroom for a week or so.

Interesting. My HR24-200 which is in an open entertainment center is running at 120. My HR24-500 which is in an enclosed cabinet is running at 109.

After downloading tonight's CE the temp is 109. I'll check it in about 30 minutes to see what happens.

About 90 minutes after the CE download the temp is back up to 120. BTW, I also ran the diagnostic test on the fan and it passed. We'll see what happens...

Anyone know what kind of drive is in the HR24-200?

What I have learned of late is that both Seagate & WD drives were used in the HR24-500's. The operating temps on those two are different.
