Is there a trick to not turning on wireless, or does it disable itself automatically if it is not used? My concerned is with the additional RF being present, I'd rather not add to the RF pollution in my home theater if possible. Some wireless routers allow the wireless to be turned off, others do not and it is always putting out a signal.

Thanks again for all the info, I really appreciate it!

That's an interesting question, which I don't have the answer to.
The CCK comes out of the box [or after a reset] without the wireless feature functioning. Since it's in a receive mode at this time, I'm not sure it's transmitting, as there isn't any need for it to. My wireless router has 11 channels, so I don't see the point of the CCK sending out any signal, "until" I've selected the network I want to log into [part of the setting up].
It would take another wireless client to see if the CCK is transmitting by default, which I don't have.

Good point, until it connects to an SSID the radio should be in listen mode and not transmit, unlike a wireless router which would be broadcasting all the time.

I ordered the CCK-W for $34 (tax + shipping) from DTV. I also want to grab a DECA BB if I can get one cheap enough. Do you know if there have been updates to the BB model? In my searching I've run across slightly different model numbers for the device, but I suspect they refer to the same hardware.

Well the HR24 finally arrived late last night (FedEx horror story) and was setup in just under 2hrs (FW download, activation, configuration). I had to setup the AM21 twice because the first time it didn't get all the channels for my pri/sec markets. There must be some flakiness with the download because the first time it missed several channels (both one I can receive and ones I can't). The ABC affiliate here came down as 5-2 but oddly enough was tuning 5-1 and displaying an empty program guide for 5-2 (which isn’t even on the air). Running the initial setup again did resolve the issue but took forever.

Now while I'm waiting for the DECA-BB and CCK-W (ordered both for about $55) to arrive I decided to use the receiver DECA to get the 2 HR24s online. A small 12v/.3A coax power inserter worked, but after a few minutes it started to heat up a bit more than it should so I went to plan B.

Using a scrap piece of RG6 with a connector, I stripped the other end of the cable to separate a couple inches of center conductor and braid. I broke out my 12v/3A power supply and connected the center to + and braid to -, used a M-M coupler to connect to the DECA pigtail, and my MRV w/Internet was online in under 10 minutes. This will do the trick until the DECA BB arrives.

Thanks again to everyone for your help!
