Had a very old HR21 that I finally had it with. Slow remote response and freezups when playing something being recorded.

They sent an HR24. Except this sucker would do a half a second video freeze every exactly five minutes.

A few days later, they sent another HR24. I would have thought at this time, they would have just sent some type of Genie.

When I asked about Genie, they said they could upgrade me but only with a 2yr contract renewal (no contract at this time).

Yes, the Hr24 is still being deployed. It's the newest non-Genie DVR. A Genie would be considered an upgrade (with as they pointed out to you) a 2-year contract renewal.

Yes, just got one, also to replace a '21. No problems with it.

How much longer before the HR-44, HR-54 or the HS-17 with a mini would be sent out instead of the HR-24 if a person just had the stand alone DVR? Or say if they had the HR-44 or HR-54 and some standalone DVR's and they would just send out a mini to replace the standalone DVR?

They will never 'upgrade' you without a commitment from my experiences and those of many others. Believe it or not, a several year old DVR is the best they have to offer without an upgrade to a genie. It's 100% certain that they aren't going to send a genie AND a mini to replace a DVR without some sort of deal reworking. If you were asking about getting a DVR replaced by just a mini, I don't even think they would do that. I tried to get a the H24 they sent me (to replace the H20) to be replaced by the H25 and they wouldn't even do that even after they clearly know I have SWM technology.

How much longer would they be able to refurbish the HR-24, H-24 and H-25?

Years. There doesn't appear to be a limit on it.

At least they do seem to actually refurbish the equipment these days, that's a big plus. Ever Google "refurbish"? Interesting.

They work fine when you get them. Actually they work well. The slowdown is a gradual process from that point on.

The first HR24 that came in obviously had a problem with the encoder or something. The freezing was only on the video (like a buffer) and on both HDMI and component outputs. Also, if I rewind and play back again, the freeze would not happen, so not a transmission problem nor a recording problem. But exactly at 5 minutes. What I didn't play enough with it was to see if if would do on playback from a recorded show, or if the clock would reset after changing channels.

I do use both hdmi and component outputs at the same time. The second one is sent via cat5 up to a bedroom. Using RF remotes too, so whatever I replace it with better have the same functionality and ideally the same remotes..

That's why I keep saying there's nothing wrong with them physically, it's the software...it's always about the software.

The Hr24 is still be sent out - You can order one from the D* web site or order one from any online Retailer - for $199 Doing buying online will not get you a refrubed unit but it will come with a New Contract extension.

Have on sent from D* as a Replacement and they will send you a refubed unit as many times as it takes for you to find one that works well. upside you have no NEW commitment (expect) with the UPS man every other day and the JOY of talking with Customer service every day -Just like Ground hog Day

Since the advent of the 24s I've had no problems with refurbed HRs. I don't think any of mine are anything but refurbs.

This is a change of topic for the thread it is in, you would be best to start a new thread. A quick answer, there are multiple Genies currently in the system, the very newest being the HS17. Other Genies worth considering are the HR44 and HR54. Check some of the other threads for more information.

Maybe there is -- I just had my HR24-200 fail after 1 month in use. Had a new one via FedEx in 1 day, and Directv did not want the old one back. (Likely just the HDD failed)

I'd hold on to that failed 24 for a couple of months. Just to make sure they really don't want it back and so you don't get hit with a non-return fee.

I deactivated 1 ( HR24/100 ) in Jan 2015 that had nothing wrong with it. They wanted the card back, not the receiver.
