I can't get the receiver to update. I've tried about 15 times. As soon as it turns on, it's already on the "Just a few more seconds" screen. I've tried JUST as the blue lights turn on. I've tried starting and continuing just as they go off. It just won't update.
I do have the remote in IR mode (Can't find an option to put it in RF).

Are you connected via HDMI? The receiver may actually boot in the time it takes to negotiate and change resolutions.

I doubt there is any software spooling for those new units yet. You will probably see a push or a CE download on Friday and/or Saturday. On the first round, we got pushes from DirecTV during the same time the CEs were spooling. RedH shows both transponders as being inactive.

It's true that there may be nothing in the stream, but if I read Mr. Turcotte correctly, he's saying that he can't even enter the 02468 code.

I have the same issue. It's not so much there are no downloads, its the fact that the receiver doesn't even enter the searching for software screen.

 These things are fast, so you may simply have a timing issue.

To pull a HR24 you need to start the '02468' as soon as the power light comes on during reboot...if you wait for the 'Hello' screen you will probably miss it.

That's what I have to do with the H24, wait any longer and you'll miss your chance.

I still do it at the first sight of "Hello" with my HR24-500, and it works.

I have not been able either, I have been doing it at hello though. I will do at power light now and see if it enters screen.

does not matter, hit it as soon as power light blinks does not help either.
bet I've tried 30 times in last 3 days.

    tried that too.
tried it when am21 light first blinks too but that was way too early.

    nothing works.
remotes all ir, tried all slider positions.
from when power light goes solid to actual display of "Just a few more seconds" is approx 3 seconds. the few more seconds is my first screen, nothing before that ever shows even hooked component.

For what it's worth, I was having similar problems and it turned out that my H24 only accepted the code when using remote code 00001 instead of the 00003 that I normally use for the H24.

My workaround was to program the AV1 switch position to code 00001 and after getting the box to reboot I switch to AV1 just to enter 02468.

    Just my $.02 :)

my av1 is set to 00003 (which is what box is set for) but I also tried the D* position which is 00001.
I will mess with resetting remote and box later and check that way to be sure.

edit: no go here either. I reset remote and placed box back into directv mode, nothing works.

There is no software spooling now ..

There is no need to download as DIRECTV will push software to your receiver when the time is right. So at this time, do not even bother with 0 2 4 6 8 as part of the test is to make sure you get the update via push.

I have it connected via HDMI, and then also connected it via component because I figured it might be taking a few extra seconds to something on screen because of HDCP. Still having the problem.
Not sure if I need an update or not. Right now it's running 0xf352. Is this current?

0xf352 is the version all the HR24-100's have right now.

Does this version have MRV or Widgets? If so, how do I turn them on?

This first version is only the base one that comes with the units - MRV and other features are not present - likely...the next firmware update will provide us with some "catch-up" to these other capabilities.
