So, our HR34 decided to delete all of our recordings going back to mid-December. I have had to do an RBR every week for the last two months. I'm very disappointed with this product and with DirecTV's customer service. I'm now out $199 for the HR34 which they are taking back, $199 for a TiVo to replace it, and $250-300 to replace all of the lost programming (at $2.99/episode on iTunes)... And after 5.5 hours on the phone I sit down and discover they've apparently accidentally cancelled service on the DRV in our living room. Argh. :(

It sounds like there have been signs for quite a while that it had issues. When I had issues with mine, I got it replaced right away. And the extra $200 for the replacement was by your choice.

Sounds like a bad hard drive in the HR34, how come you didnt just have them replace it?

You are correct, I am responsible for $199 for the replacement. Since the HR34 tech support department said this has happened before, I chose not to risk losing everything again and be out another $300 to replace the programming.

I've had a bad fan and network jack (I believe) but not a hard drive.

Unfortunately, that is going to be a possibility with any DVR you buy. The only sure fire way to prevent it, is to use a Promise RAID eSATA raid 5 box where losing a drive wont cost you all your programs.

I didn't want to go through another HR34 experience. After the rep explained to me that it was my problem for having 'requested' the HR34 in the first place, I had had enough.

Yea, a comment like that would probably have pissed me off too. Hopefully the Tivo will work better for you. The 34 software is a tad bit on the rough side yet.

Quite a switch to a THR, I will say that. From an HMC to no Whole Home. I do hope it works out for you.

HR34's weren't available to the public untill February, how did you get yours that early?

I have no idea what you are talking about. All HR34's have always been supported since they were first released in Dec 2011. It was only current customers who were unable to get them from DirecTv until Feb.

Other than inaccurate statements about not guaranteeing what I'd get, I got support from DirecTV when mine had temp issues in January. Or at least they sent me a new one.

Ahhh..ok my bad there was a release to New work orders beginning the first of the year...to the OP you should stand your ground and demand the issues be taken care of

12/8/11 they launched in select markets and people ordered units that were shipped to retailers for sales to new customers in select markets. Existing customers ordered them and dealers sold them assuming they would get new stock to replace them. Do some searches and you'll find threads about people upset about dealers overselling their stock because they wouldn't get replaced.

I think he meant he will have to buy the programs he lost from iTunes to watch them.
