I do not know how to describe it. If I turn off the TV and leave the hr34 on. Wait lets say an hour and turn on the tv the screen is dark. I need to channel up to get it to wake any ideas? power saving is off.

Its likely losing hdmi sync with the tv, and has to be forced to resync, which changing channels does. You might try changing inputs on the tv away, and then back to directv, and see if that pulls the picture back as well.

Personally, I say just turn the hr34 off with the tv and back on with the tv.

Why leave the hr34 on ? Turn it off with the TV. When you turn them both back on the buffer is still there.

I don't think the Genie Servers buffer while they are off.
