If you are in one of the HR44 beta-test markets, please report your bugs here.

I just had my HR44 installed. While the installer was here, we encountered a few bugs for which he has already filed reports.
    • Cannot connect to a secured wireless network:
I use a secured access list to allow devices to connect to my wireless router. Usually, when I add a device and its MAC address to the list, the device connects automatically. Unfortunately, however, the HR44 connects to my router ONLY when this access list is disabled. If secure access is enabled, the HR44 disconnects from the router. I was told that engineers are on the fast track for resolving HR44 bugs and releasing software updates. This is a major issue that I hope this is fixed very soon.
    • New remote doesn't work:
Are we surprised? Not really. Even the installer's remote didn't work! A second installer (and their tech support) couldn't get it to work, either. But my old remote works just fine.

MAC address security is pretty unusual for home networks. Most people just use WEP, WPA or WPA2, so I'm not sure I'd classify this as a major issue (at least from the perspective of DirecTV's programmers). :)

As I posted in the other thread, give it 24 hours for updates.

What doesn't work on the remote? Or the whole remote doesn't work?

Put the remote in RF and program it to the TV.

Unlike the earlier remotes, the RC7x gets it's code from the Genie/Client, so firmware updates can change how a remote will or not work.
The older RC6x have fixed codes.

If you haven't done it yet, put the RC71 into RF mode and then try to program for your TV and see if that works.

I've had a secured network for years, and have had absolutely no problems with any other devices -- including the Whole Home wireless CCK (which, with the HR44, is no longer is required). Sorry, but for me this is a major issue.

Might be a good time to post what version of software this is running.

    Next question: is this a -500 or a -700?

One thing I noticed immediately is that the box is lightning fast -- when compared to older DVRs. Has some new features, but I haven't gotten to play with them yet. Also, the Guide is still populating.

Didn't mean to imply it wasn't a big issue for you...I was just commenting you are in a small minority of users with MAC level security. I've been working with LANs since thicknet and vampire taps and can count on my hand the number of businesses I've seen that use MAC level security. I've never encountered it in a home LAN before...most people don't even know it exists, and those that do consider it too much hassle when WPA2/PSK provides pretty nearly foolproof security.

Granted, it SHOULD just work...not sure why it doesn't, unless the unit reported the Ethernet MAC address rather than the wireless MAC address.

Did YOU try doing it in RF mode?

wireless of the 44 has been a bit troublesome. This firmware the OP listed was the first for my 44-700 that worked without causing MRV problems.
If the OP still has a WCCK, it might be the work-a-round until there is a newer update. I needed to keep my WCCK for a while, but now have been able to retire it, but then I'm using WPA2.

"we" know someone else with a Samsung who also can't power it on/off.

My Vizio only recently got working with the RC71.
