I have an HR44 with external drive and every morning for the last week or so it has been stuck on the software download screen at 0%.
An RBR brings the unit back up, but the next morning it's stuck again.

Is there anyway to fix this?

It might be trying to download a version that isn't in the download stream.
Which version is it trying to download?

0x097f is the release that's in the stream today so unless 0x0a02 was available early this morning, you'll just have to wait for it to appear again.
    What's your current firmware version?
We've seen this problem before. Your DVR was designated for a download of 0x0A02 and for some reason it did not happen - did the DVR ask to do a download and you said "no", or maybe your signals were too weak (you need to check this)?
As soon as 0x0a02 appears in the download stream, you'll get it.

So, this is still happening everyday. Obviously, it is preventing recordings from happening.

I'm on release 0x09f6 from May 1. And it is attempting to download 0x0A02.
I'll try to check the signal levels today.

What do I need to look for with the signal levels?

Just post them here. Let's see all signals from 101 119 99 ca and cb 103 ca and cb. Ignore 110 and anything with an s.

Signal levels look great. I don't think that's it. I think it's a glitch in the system. How late do you stay up at night?

My HR44-500 is experiencing essentially the same thing. I do have an external drive because the internal drive is flakey and it was easier to set up the external drive than convince a CSR that the internal drive really was failing.

For the last several mornings we find the Genie hung at 1% trying to install 0x0A02. My signal levels are good and I have run CLEARMYBOX.

At this point I'm hoping that the staggered rollout will complete and 0x0A02 will be in the stream during normal hours and I can do a manual download.

When a receiver gets into this state, running the "current" regular release and trying to download a different one which is not in the stream, I'm not sure there is any solution other than waiting for the release to reappear in the download stream. Resets don't work, and if you try to download the one that's in the stream it won't download because it's the same as the one you have and is also older than the one the receiver is expecting. I think when the one the receiver is expecting does reappear it will download automatically.

This is a bug in DirecTV's download procedures and it's about time it was fixed.

Replacing the box will of course fix the problem but I hope it does not come to that.

If he's up late enough I'd force it when the new version is in the stream. Rare I say that but in this case...

How late are we talking? Would I be better to wait until Friday or Saturday night?

NO, do not do it on a Friday or Saturday. That'd be very bad... See the CE section as to why... ;)

You need to check this site...

    http://www.redh.com/dtv/

It will tell you what is in the stream. It is real time... Check when you go to bed, if the new version is in the stream well go for it. If not, then don't.

No, I know. That was precisely why I asked. I wondered if trying to move to something other than the 0x0A02 release might work better.

So, should I just keep an eye on that website and when the firmware changes to something other than 0x09F6, try to force a download?

This is really getting annoying. Purely by chance, I was up at 4:30 this morning with my daughter so I figured I might as well check the receiver. Of course it was stuck again.

I verified that 0x0A02 was in the stream. I did an RBR and tried to force a download. It wouldn't even attempt a download. It just went through the boot process as normal. I tried several times.

Is the correct procedure still to hit 0-2-4-6-8 on the remote as soon as the blue screen appears?

I have seen posts in the past that if you unplug the power at night before you go to bed, then in the morning when the feed is in the stream, plug in the power now and see doesn't it get the new software number.
From what I read, the fact that it was unplugged for more than an hour makes the receiver check for new software.

Once the blue screen appears it may be too late. You need to enter the codes A SOON as you see the "Res" LED light up on the front panel
