I will be getting a new HR44 with 3 C41 clients install on Saturday. I have a few questions. Can the HR44 scan for OTA channels still when it is connected to a AM21 and will the clients receive the the OTA channels?

I think they have removed the scanning feature from the Genies? But yes, you can play OTA on the clients. I have an AM21 on my HR44 and we use it quite frequently on the clients.

I thought I read that before that you can't do a OTA Scan on the Genie connected to a AM21. Do you have to enter 2-1 for channel 2 still on the clients still?

I just doubled checked and the scanning feature was removed in one of the software updates.

I don't know about channel entry on OTA, I am one who always used the guide. But I'll go check for you.

    Update:
I'm not sure what you used to do, but I entered 002-1 and 2-1 and they both worked.

I'm getting my Genie installed tomorrow and this topic has me curious. I too have an AM21. When you say that it no longer has the scan ability, I assume that means it automatically knows based on the zip code how to map the OTA channels. Does that mean I'll still get the sub-channels? And what about the ones that D* doesn't provide guide data for? I can't record anything from those channels now, but at least I can tune to them.

Well they installed my HR44-200, so now I can answer my own questions in more detail..

Yes, inputting the zip code gets you all the sub-channels that D* has guide data for.

No, you no longer can even tune to the sub-channels that didn't have guide data before.

As an example, here in the Chicago market we have one local with 1 main and 4 subs, 26-1 thru 26-5. D* only has data for 26-1 thru 26-4, but nothing on 26-5. With my old box (THR22) I could tune to 26-5. I no longer even have that option.

There is a way to get 26.5 in Chicago. Run your intial set-up again with Chi. as primary and Honolulu HI (96801) as your secondary zip. Honolulu has a 26.5 RF27 channel in D* database. This will give you your channel with the wrong guide info (Honolulu guide). By matching either channel 26.5 or .5 RF27 your AM21 will pick-up the channel. In your case both match, so it should work. With this set-up you can even record from that channel, by setting manual recordings for the time span you want to record on that channel.
