So I keep getting this reboot on my HR54 every few days, very sporadic. Any ideas what’s going on here, it says HD failure, but reboots and takes back off? I am running 1 HR54 with am21, 1 mini genie and 1 hr24 on my network. The latests issue is in the last week my mini is almost unwatchable with constantly freezing up. Searching tonight I found a cable to a disconnected old receiver cut and was wondering if that may have been part of my issues as well?

I have been off the board for a while and always knew this was the place to get issues solved. Thanks for any help.

Most likely the hard drive is in the final stages of life.

JUST CONNECT an EXTERNAL eSATA ENCLOSURE WITH YOUR OWN HDD

Ok I’ll go look it up thanks. One other question. I have a Sammy rvu tv, HR54 and the correct LNB (got it from a DTV installer), will DTV turn on 4K or will they still make a truck roll?

Yup. First tell me if you want to stick with an HDD or go to an SSD? In any event you will need an eSATA device. I just ordered a device I've never used before, should get it today and will test it out ASAP. Here's a link to that: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WC1QQVC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
When you look at the Amazon offering you will see thumbnail pictures to the left of the big picture of the device. Take a look at them and take a good look at the back wall of the device. See the eSATA port? That is absolutely needed in order for the device to work with an HR. Just about any external device with that port will work with any HR. I also have several Thermaltake Docks, they work well but are hard to find.

You need a drive. If you want an HDD, we recommend the WD Surveillance drives, here's a link to a 4TB drive: https://www.amazon.com/Purple-Surve...nce+drive&qid=1577553780&s=electronics&sr=1-6

You will see a link to a thread about SSDs in HRs in the signature below this post. You might want to read thru that.

    Need more help? Just ask.

Thanks Rich. I haven’t done any tinkering with the boxes in a while so I gotta get back on the bike and try to ride again.

If you are going to sign up for 4K, you might as well have Directv replace the HR54 when they give you the C61K.

The dock/enclosure I linked to above is working. Connected it to a new refurb and it was easily recognized by the new 1TB WD Green SSD. Now every HR in this house has an SSD on it. I'll put all this info on the appropriate thread. This is a good thing, we can now use the enclosure or the docks.

BTW, the enclosure I linked to is only good for 2.5" drives, SSD or HDD. I'll try to find a Thermaltake dock and link to that. The TT docks take both 2.5 and 3.5 drives.

So what is benefit of dock vrs enclosure? It looks much cleaner and more protected in an enclosure to me.

And an SSD would be longer lasting i would take it?

    Best cooling model.
Who need the "protection" ? When internal fan will die, the HDD become toasting.
Who knows ? It's not that easy as you say.

The enclosure works fine. I have an SSD in an enclosure on the HR24 my wife uses and it works fine.
