We’ve had a HR54 & C61K combo for a while now. No issues. For the past few days, however, recorded programs are totally unwatchable due to extreme pixelization and audio cut outs. Interestingly, live broadcast shows minimal or no pixelization. I’m trying to determine if our HR54 drive is failing or if this is a larger issue with DTV locals. RBR on DVR and client makes no difference. Anyone else experiencing similar problems? Thanks

I have an HR54 and a C61K as well, and in my reception area (Central Texas), I have not been having any signal issues. I provide this information to add some perspective, I.e. there doesn’t seem to be a widespread DTV signal issue going on.

Thank you. Perhaps it is a failing HR54 then.

How old is you install? Post your STA signals - perhaps your Dish is just out of alignment ?

The 54/61 combo was relatively new when we got ours. Forgive me but which specific Sat signals do I check? I’m not sure which has the OTA channels

Wouldn’t a simple System Test be a good first step?

You can download the current transponder map here:
Transponder Maps: Domestic, Mexico, Latin ~ Data 04/24/2019

Open the file in Excel and you can search for your OTA channels. Once you have the satellite and transponder, you can go into the signal strength menu to check specific satellite/transponder signal strengths.

If you have a satellite alignment issue, the System Test should give you an error message.

Did that. No issues found. If my drive were failing would I have gotten an error?

I don’t think so. You could run the hard drive diagnostics that are available at the beginning of a reboot to check the HD status. Reset your DVR. When you see "Just a few more seconds..." on your TV screen using your DIRECTV remote press SELECT. You can also press SELECT when you see "Running receiver self-check". This will bring up the BiST menu.

Go to menu and display Sat signals for all Sats --post a picture -If your only seeing breakups on OTA - Then you HD is fine

Not necessarily. You have watched live TV and haven't seen these problems?

If I am reading this correctly, my locals are on 99S TPN3. Thing is, my HR54 shows no active transponders on 99S.

I'm in the Tri-Cities too and having the same problems. I think there's an issue at the their transmission site. It's happened multiple times over the years. None of our local channel recordings from last Thursday were watchable and my wife just texted me and said WCYB is doing it again today.

Thanks for the response. I’ve since talked with some local friends and can confirm this. I opened a case with support but doubt anything will ever come of it :(

I just called in when I got home. She said they weren't showing any issues. After doing some resets, I was still occasionally seeing pixellation. She then said the local channels were having problems.

Also, you should definitely have signal on 99s Transponder 3. Mine is at 99. It takes a little longer to show than the main feeds.
