Well, I agree with the person that said D* was playing catchup to Tivo instead of making it better. I still use my Tivo to watch football OTA because the slow motion is much better.
I think my HR20-700 is 95% as good as my tivo. With doubleplay I can finally use it as my primary receiver.
I'm not so sure it's playing catch up. I think they had a different direction and went with it. True, they added some TiVo features along the way but that doesn’t mean they’re trying to catch them.
Since the DVR+ first came out, DirecTV has had standing agreements with TiVo. They could have had any feature TiVo has without a legal challenge. With that in mind, it seems to me that this is the direction DirecTV intended to go.
My HR21-100 failed to record Oz on the 101 last night because ...

My box remains sluggish, now it has missed a recording (again).
This is unsatisfactory.

Actually, I enjoyed the suggestions feature which was based on the thumbs up/thumbs down functionality? Why...same reason I like the suggestions feature on NetFlix.
There are 200+ channels and no easy way to figure out if there is something good on. Oh, wait I could take 30 minutes to scroll through the HR2x guide...or go to a website and read reviews.
Now, I should note...I didn't have suggestions record for me...I just had it create a list of programs I might like.
I understand there are people that are so immersed in TV they have memorized every show they could ever want to watch and maximized every minute of their viewing/recording time. Then there are people with lives...
