The leaks are what they are.... it happened, and we (DIRECTV) will have to look to find ways to make sure that it doesn't happen again.

Take some of the energy you guys are investing in this thread, and focus it on the First Look, so you can have the joy of pointig out how wrong some people are in their assumptions of what the 24 series is about.

I throw this out, as a fun alternative first look (along with the standard format that DBSTalk)... "The events happen in real time" a youtube video or two just showing well things have improved with this platform.

    Just an idea.

I could probably do a Video comparing the 2 (HR24 vs HR21) via my HAVA.....

Or just a video of the HR24 in action.

I think the video is a great idea. It really would show the differences quite dramatically.

Of course, it might also inspire a lot of backlash and whining/bitching/handwringing about people with replacements or new installs getting those "pos HR21's, HR22's, HR23's". Might? Who am I kidding. WILL cause a backlash.

Unfortunately Earl, I only have a mediocre video camera at best. Someone with a HD video camera should do something very much like that. BTW, I told Mrs. Smiddy we NEEDED an HD video camera and she ended up getting a low priced one to video tape Colton's soccer games. Once she saw the video she was like, "that looks terrible!" I didn't have the guts to tell her, "I told you so." Maybe I have an opportunity here to get me a new HD video camera. :scratchin

Ok, here's what I will do, I will put a few lines down describing this system, since we actually have a few permutations of testing going on in here, I will take a crack at the H24/HR24/DECA module subsystem, from that perspective, likely from a psuedo whole-home solution. I can do that by Saturday before bed. Sixto I am going to "leverage" your fine work at the begining of this thread. I will also take a lot of photos too. A word of caution to people taking photos, be careful with "ALL" the stickers and tags, since there are a few that appear production-ish that are not quite.

I see it as a potential wind fall for DIRECTV. So long as you can deal with the whining until they eventually get a new one. :)

Note to self .. Record 24 on the 24 .. Record 24 on the 23 .. position camera in front of TV and give a demo ..

Actually, I've got an HD-Flip that should do OK for this purpose. Certainly won't be "on a Sony" as Dr. Manning likes to preach during his Colts games, though.

I can hear it now. "I paid $200 and they didn't sent me a old HR2? and not a new HR24. Shouldn't I get new equipment for $200."

OK, I did a direct feed into my old MiniDV camcorder of:

    - Scrolling page at a time through the guide
    - Sctolling line at at time through the guide
    - Doing a search for "Star Trek"
    - Then provided times for doing both on each box.

I have a 6MB and a higher quality 21.2MB WMP file, where can I upload if you're interested?

What someone should grab, I would if I had an HR24, is video of the same tasks on both your HR24 and an HR21, or 22 or 20. Then it could be edited to be a side by side video showing the time differences.

I could probably do it with my H24 and H21 with my HD camcorder. I'll have to move the H21 to the same TV though.

It wasn't side by side, which would be better if someone can do that.

just a thought on the performance of the HR24. would it beneficial if someone showed how fast the HR24 also deletes shows? I've noticed that it deletes shows a lot faster than the HR20-HR21's series.

One thing that Doug might have it an issue with the file size of the videos we create. I don't know what kind of hosting deal his site or here has, if we make it too large it could eat quickly into their bandwidth allocation (if there is one), just something we might need to consider.
