I have an HR-20, 5LNB Dish and I have the B Band converters on the back.
I receive all my HD locals and my HD 70's.
I also have the Sunday Ticket in HD (Superfan)

But, when I go to the new HD channels I get 771.
When I call DTV, they make me go through the same old motions...reboot, hard reset, re-send the signal, etc.

Finally, they told me that they need to send someone out and it is going to cost me $70 because my receiver is no longer under warranty. (9 months old)
But, there isn't anything wrong with my receiver, it works fine...I just don't get the "new" channels for some strange reason.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?
I used to install for Dish for about 5 years, so I am willing to try just about anything. (Except pay $70 for channels that I am supposed to be receiving for free!)

What are your signal strengths for the 103b SAT

Did you ever receive them or did they just go out? Like Earl suggests, signal on 103b?

I will check immediately when I get home.
I am at work right now.

I checked all the signal strengths about a month ago when I first realized that I don't have these channels and everything seemed high. (90's)

However, I one of the guys at DTV which bird the new channels were on and he told me 99. So it's good to hear that it may be the 103b instead that needs to be adjusted.

Also, verify that the HR20 is set up to be in 5-LNB mode. If it is set up to be in 3-LNB mode, you won't get the new HD channels.

    I never had them.
I received a voicemail on my phone stating that I had new channels about 2 months ago or so.

From the very first time I checked...I didn't have them.
The first time I called DTV, they told me that some people are getting them later than others. So I waited. LOL
    Still, same thing.

Thank you very much, I will double check this when I get home as well.
I actually hope this is the issue, since I don't have an extension ladder anymore. :(

    Middle...
I wonder about your initial signal levels - when you checked them there would have been no signals on the B-band to measure, as 103(b) wasn't active yet. And if you checked 99 and got a signal, that would've been 99(b) which is actually in the "A Band".

My guess is that you have an issue with an incompatible multiswitch. Can you go find it and tell us the model number?

Chheck to ensure you have the BBC (broad band converters) installed on the "sat-in" ports on the back of your HR. It cannot see 103b without them.

What do you get on channel 498?

It seems your box sees something on the new satellite if you are getting signal checks...

Can you detail your whole setup from dish to TV. Something may be wrong along the line. Or maybe your box is bad. It happens.

AND make sure any OTA hookup is not diplexed. That is a big no no now with the new sat set up.

I will check 498 when I get home as well. I have not done that yet.

I have an HR-20, with component going to a Westinghouse LVM-42 something.
I have the HDMI hooked up, but I do not use it since I never collaborated it and there were many problems with the HDMI in the beginning.

498'll get a channel not available. The new test channel is 480.
Found that out a few weeks ago :p

Absolutely. I have a list now of things I will be doing when I get home.
I will get you guys the model number asap.

    One question though.
    I don't remember there being a switch.
Isn't the switch built into the LNB on DTV?

There is a multiswitch integrated into the dish, but depending on your setup (more than 4 connections), they may have installed an external switch as well. There are only a couple of switches that support the new satellites.

The alignment needs to be more precise for the 103 satellite, so if the dish dropped a little bit, you could still get the programming on some of the sats, but not 103.

I would start with the signal level on 103 and we'll proceed from there.

    Good luck.

Make sure it's no longer diplexed in. A lazy installer may not have checked.

Yea, I think you have a laundry list now.

    1) Check signals on 103b. You should have mid 80s and above.
    2) Make sure HR20 is in 5lnb mode
    3) Just double-check that the BBand converters are properly connected. A friend of mine was having very similar issues and found out the installer didn't properly tighten the BBand converters. He tightened them down and hasn't had a problem since.
    4) If you have a multiswitch make sure it's the new Zinwell 6x8 switch
    5) You had OTA, make sure it's still not diplexed in somewhere.

    Good luck!
