Ok, heres the scoop.
Theres no switch in line.
I had already disconnected my OTA so that not an issue.
The b-band converters are on and tight. (these are the second ones, as I received replacements from DTV thinking that might be the problem)
I have NO signal on 103b, but I do have signal on everything else.
99a is low at about 37 or so.
At this point I am guessing the dish needs to be re aligned, but it will be a few days until I can get an extension ladder.
I am at a loss as to the process of increasing the 103b.
Remember, I used to install Dish, so the most complex I had was a super dish that hit 110, 119, and 105. So this 5 lnb dish is new to me.
Not so fast, do you get any signal on 103a? If so what are the signal strengths of each of the TPs that you receive? If you do indeed get signal from 103a and it's strong then a realignment is probably not necessary. If everything else checks out, BBCs/multiswitch/cabling/no diplexing then it could very well be a faulty LNB on your dish.
One of the choices was tonight. I chose it.
The OP should also have DIRECTV ship out two new BBCs - they're free. The BBCs currently being used may be defective.
And check the test channel, too!
I get a decent (97) signal from 103a, but absolutely no signal whatsoever on 103b.
I have already replaced my bbc's and I am still having the same issue.
I am only getting a (30) signal on the 99b. I am not sure if that matters.
This sounds like a bad lnb, or there is a hidden diplexer somewhere on the line.
And you've removed the diplexer at the TOP end, too?
In Los Angeles metro, all your mpeg4 locals are on 103a (or the channel 80-89 mpeg2 feeds over on sats 110 & 119). Sat 99b has nothing of interest unless you qualify for San Diego stations.
I am in Orange County, and I do get my MPEG 4 LA Locals with no probs.
Also, there is no diplexer at either end. I don't even have my antenna up anymore since I have my locals over DTV.
I know a few of these will probably sound stupid but thought i would try.
First - has your box ever had the forced download i.e. reset box > at the blue hello screen type 02468
reason i ask is becase when my boxes were installed i got signal failed until we did the forced download
Second - are your cables ran through wallplates? check the barrel in the wall plate we were told that unless the insert was blue, that we MIGHT have problems with our high def as the white and yellow inserted ones were not rated for high def.
hope something here might help
I will try the forced download now. I have never tried that before.
Is there a way to see what version firmware I have before initiating such a download? Just in case I already have the newest version?
Also. No wallplates. I installed everything but the actual dish myself. Its solid RG6 the whole way
Using your DirecTV remote, press the Menu button.
Select Help & Settings.
Select Info & Test.
When the System Info screen comes up,you should see all of the information listed for that particular receiver, such as Manufacturer,Model Number,Access Card,Receiver ID,Original Software Version along with a past upgrade,if applicable. There is alot of other info listed in this section too.To see all of the info, you will have to scroll down that page on your screen.
Forget the download -- not the issue. This is not a software problem. You should have the latest non-beta software by now. That forced download will just get you a (buggy) beta. See the Cutting Edge section here and currently downloading software.
No, from what you say there is one remaining likely issue: the dish has a faulty LNB. Because the signals from 103(b) are in the (new) Ka band, they are a higher frequency than all the others. Higher frequencies are tweakier to downconvert, so under many conditions an LNB tuning failure would happen here first.
Bad antenna selection in HR20 setup: wouldn't get 103(a)
Bad/wrong multiswitch: not present
OTA diplexing: not present
Misaligned antenna: wouldn't get 103(a)
Bad BBCs: replaced once, no joy
Swap cables: same problem, both cables, and get 103(a), etc.
Problem seems to involve single satellite of pair at 103, which means to me that the LNB cannot lock to the 18GHz signal from 103(B). Call D* to replace LNB. They will probably replace the whole dish.
Question: If you reset the HR10 from the Reset menu, do you get a (temporary) fix? Sometimes this works if the LNB is marginal.
Agree with kc - you need a new LNB or a new Slimline dish (if you have an out-of-production AT-9 dish.) You can ignore the 99(b) signal strengths. Those are somebody else's HD locals. Make sure you get all 16 tp's on 103(b) in the mid-80's or above before you sign off on the service call. There are no valid excuses, regardless of what you are told.
Unless you have LOS issues of course, that is a very valid excuse for low signal strengths
I think we can exclude LOS. He's already said he's got at least one 97 tp reading on 103(a).
Ok, I received a phone call from DTV stating that I am eligible for a free upgrade due to the fact that I have a receiver that is too old to receive the new HD channels. (I have an H10 upstairs)
I called them and they are coming out to replace my H10 with an HR20 for free. !!
I also mentioned to the person ont he phone that I am not receiving the new HD channels on my HR20 anyway due to (most likely) a faulty LNB.
I explained to her that with all of your help, I have been troubleshooting for the past week.
She wrote a note on the ticket and someone will be out Wednesday morning to take a look at the dish.
I do have an AT-9, so hopefully I will get that new slimline that you guys mentioned. That sounds much better lol.
Anyway, I will let you guys know the outcome of the trouble call asap.
Keep your fingers crossed.
DTV is here...Dropping off the new HD (non DVR) upstairs.
He wont look at the dish or help with anything.
He says I need to order a friggin service call.
Unbeleivable. He is going to drop of this receiver (that is supposed to get the new channels) and it is not going to get the new HD channels either.
