I keep telling folks to call Retention and I'm gonna keep repeating that suggestion. It's just better.

Looks like D* is gonna go with a cloud DVR option. Happens on D*Now first then will migrate to D* as we know it. I got the story on several feeds a day or so ago. I could use a cloud DVR...maybe.

Yup, makes sense at first glance. Can't wait to see how it gets screwed up. I have little faith in D* anymore.

Every report I read said they would first put the cloud DVR on D*Now and then put the cloud DVR on D* itself at a later date. Why can't they do that?

They can't go all cloud because of varying Internet capabilities. Not everyone has the option of broadband, particularly rural areas. Then you have the issue of data caps.

Yeah. People with DirecTV now always have good internet. People without , it’s not so cut and dry.

For some reason (I'm not about to call Verizon and complain) we don't seem to have data caps. We stream constantly and have no issues. But, yeah, I get that. Some folks just don't have the Net feed that we do, but each article I read did mention that D* proper was gonna get a cloud DVR function after D* Now's cloud DVR is working correctly (God only knows what "working correctly" will entail). If they ever get D* Now stable I'm gonna take a long look at it. I'm tired of paying the equipment charges.

We do have a cap on our phone lines and that's from Verizon too.

I've been using PSVue's cloud DVR since switching from D late last year. I like it much more than the Genie w clients that I was using. It seems pretty clear that the providers want to move in that direction as it solves lots of issues both for the providers and consumers. That said though, and as others have already pointed out, it relies on the availability of a reliable and sufficiently fast net connection. Unfortunately not everyone has that available, yet.

I'm gonna go in that direction one of these days. My DVRs kinda suck at the moment. Getting really annoying. I could get replacements but I'm getting to the point where I don't see a replacement as a viable option. The 24-100 I just put back in service has slowed considerably in the last week. Really annoying.
