The feature the HR2xs lack that I miss the most from the TIVO days is suggestions. I really enjoyed comming home from work or on a weekend and seeing what was available to watch right away, whether it was the movies I liked or sitcoms. After a while of Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down, the TIVO was very good at selecting what I like to watch. Well, here's hoping the new HD Directivo will be here soon!

I hated that "feature." I turned it off and turned off sound effects on every Tivo after set up. Dumbest feature ever, IMO.

You and me both. The first sitcom I recorded the next night I had 8 shows-3 in spanish! Goodby! I did wait a week on the sound effects to let the wife get used to the new box. Worthless features to me but YMMV.

We've had four Tivos.. Always used the same installation process:

    Set up TIVO
    Activate TIVO
    Disable Suggestions
    Done!

Mentioning something you like better about TiVo here is like saying "national health coverage" at the Republican Convention. Be prepared for the onslaught!

The only one I really miss is "wish lists". Didn't like "suggestions" at all.

you have wishlists on the hrs.... its just not called that, and frankly works much better on the hrs than tivo did... What do you want to wish list, and Ill give you an example of how to do it.

There are ways to make directv record things you would probably like to see.. I have done this for my mom on her DVR and she loves it.. Its actually better for her than tivo suggestions where...

List the show types and movie types you like, and ill explain how you can basically have the hr record suggestions for you....

I always disabled suggestions, too. In fact, I have an HD Tivo and Suggestions are off so I am not just saying that to defend the HR over the Tivo. And I cannot remember the last time I even looked at the possible suggestions with Tivo-8 shortcut.

My problem with suggestions are two fold. I hate the DVR recording when I don't expect it to. The light going on drove me nuts. And the suggestions stink. The idea is good but the suggestions are just plain stupid. Watch the Simpsons a lot, you will get every cartoon known to man.

That happens the first two weeks. It works better after a while.

It did suggest new shows it thought we'd be interested in, and was absolutely right 3 times. The other times it just suggested reruns of stuff I had already recorded. I finally did end up turning it off -- we don't have time to watch the things we record as it is, let alone the suggestions.

Obama must be trying to get the new Tivo out, that must be why it doesn't seem to be actually happening even though everyone is talking about it.

I agree with the OP. While the vast majority of suggestions that the Tivo recorded, I never watched, there were many times that I got bailed out when I forgot to record something, only to have the Tivo do it for me as a suggestion.

Preventing it from continuing to record shows that I didn't want to watch was easy enough by giving those shows 3 thumbs down, prior to deleting them.

I mostly enjoy suggestions. If it goes too far off on a tangent tagging with down thumbs usually cures it.

AALL 70S FRAISER CHEERS TTITLE CCHAN 2 300 & Show Types & Series

AALL COMEDY & Movies & Comedy

The words in all caps must be entered as typed.. The words after the & are the narrowing search terms you choose after you have entered the search word strings....

The second one is most difficult, because you listed like 3 movies.. Not enough to go on more than choosing to have it record all comedys... which isn't a bad thing either though... :)
