C31 was just installed and it is very slow to respond especially using pause/rewind/fast foward and guide response time.

    Any tricks to improve?

    Thanks

I've heard it's something they're working on to improve in future software releases.

Some things you can check while waiting, turn native off and scrolling off in display preferences.

Was the HR34 installed at the same time ? Is it slow also ?
It might just be that the HR34 has not loaded all the graphics, etc. from it's startup.

That's not the issue. It's something that will hopefully be improved with new firmware. My C31 is still lagging on remote input.

I got mine installed today, it is slow also but I can live with that. The issue I'm having is if I turn C31 off I can't turn it back on with remote or power button on the front panel. It is getting power (green light is on in the back) but the only way to turn it back on is to remove power from it plug it back in. If I turn it off again or if it goes to stand by I have to do the same thing to get it going again. This happens to all 3 C31s. The H34 seems to be working fine, any ideas? When it got installed today the H34 downloaded latest firmware.

I would wait 24 hours before taking any more steps.

That's the plan for now. Was going to call the installer back but since it is Saturday I'll wait till Monday.

I have the H34 connected directly to my switch which is connected to the router, installer said it should be connected directly to the router but the internet connection is working fine (Pandora, etc..) Could this cause an issue?
    Thanks.

Well, it's been more then 24 hrs. Still can't turn C31s on without unplugging them. Another issue, had to reset H34 this morning after turning it on from standby. The screen was blank but I coud hear the sound and was able to change channels. I'm hoping it's not the H34 that is causing my issues.

Since it's a new install of them, and they don't even come on by pressing the front DIRECTV button then I'd call DIRECTV for a service call to correct it.

In what way? by an ethernet? IF SO, unplug that, it's the reason you are having trouble with your c-31's.

Not sure why you don't have a bb deca installed.

I think we need a little more info on exactly how the HR34 is connected/installed. And with the HR34, a CCK is not needed as the HR34 has the ability to bridge Ethernet to DECA.

It does? HOW does that work exactly, with no cck?

I've never know a whole home system to work correctly when the internet is plugged into the hddvr, unless all the units were plugged into the network, which I'm sure isn't the case here.

The 34 is different. With an ethernet cable plugged in, the DECA is not disabled. This means that the 34 will bridge ethernet to DECA and vice versa.

I got home today and reset everything. After going thru all the set up steps everything seems to be working as far as C31s go but not the H34. H34 will only work in 480p resolution, if I pick anything higher the screen goes blank and I have to turn the unit off and turn it back on. Re-setting using the red button doesn't fix anything. Before I reset everything resolution was fine except for the issue with C31s. Everything else works (WH-DVR all options, internet, apps, etc..) Just for kicks I unplugged the CAT 6 from H34, that didn't change anything. H34 and 3 C31 are connected using RG 6 Quad Shield going to SWM 8 splitter. I'm thinking my H34 is a lemon. Installer was supposed to call me in the afternoon but I guess he forgot.

After spending another two hours on reloading software and resetting all the settings they will be replacing the H34 tomorrow. I asked the installer to bring the CCK unit just in case but he said that the LAN port on the H34 should do the job just fine. Fingers crossed.

then why are they installing ccks with the 34's?

directv just likes to toss equipment at customers?

where does it say that you can plug the ethernet into a 34? do you have a link? or what?

While it works I've heard that DIRECTV says it's not the preferred way to do it. Could also just be that they want a standard way of doing things, doesn't matter what type of STB you have they all get CCK installed.

..hmm. not really sure i agree here.

seems like the thing NOT to do, if it's not recommended by dtv, especially since this guy is having issues..with his 31's not responding correctly and constant reboots..

looks like the issue is with the 34..does the 34 give you any error message when you try a higher resolution? any message at all?

what type of tv are you connecting to, and are you using a hdmi? and was the hdmi provided by the tech?

Also, if you have an older model flat screen, plasma, lcd, have you tried a component cable input and had the same results with higher resolutions?
