Is it me or has the PQ gotten noticably better with 0x290. I'm not seeing as much graniness in low lit scenes and definitely less pixilation.

    Observations?

I was thinking the same thing this morning.

I was jumping back and forth between my HR21-100 and the HR23 checking some stuff and they were on the same channel.

I swore that the HR23 looked better.

AAMOF, I just did it again after I saw your post and I still think it looks better.

    Anyone else?

The next question is, is it the boxes or the programming? :) (or both!!)

Dow we know which chip sets are in the HR23?

I had assumed it was the same as the HR21-700.

I don't know. But football today looks much better than last week. It's not perfect; but the noise level (grainy picture) is down.

Ugh, I missed this last CE but I have a good excuse. My wife and I had our second child. :)

Did anyone's HR23 spontaneously reboot today?

    Yup. Mine did.

As well as my HR20-700 & my HR21-100.

    All on the CE.

    Congrats!!! :D
And, yes, mine rebooted. Along with my HR20-700. Both of these are on x0290. My HR20-100 locked up, and it is on the latest national release.

Is it me or is the PQ in the latest firmware pretty bad.

I'm getting blotchiness(that a word :scratchin) in the transitions between dark and light areas.

    It's you. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

What programs are you noticing this with?

I know exactly what you mean by "blotchiness". I mostly see it in low lit scenes or when the background is dark. Sometimes the "noise" is so bad it looks like snow.

For me, although the PQ seems a little better than it did a few CEs ago; however, it never got back to the great PQ of the pre-production model.

I'm still hoping that someday it gets better.

    everyone's a comedian

Mostly locals and 720p nationals. MPEG4 UHD & HDNET still look great as always. ;)

since the first look has been made public, i noticed a lot a members questioning the comments about the improved PQ. so how or who wants to take on the challenge on explaining on what we see without discussing what is said in private?

About the most I'd say is that the PQ comment was a subjective observation and not an empirically quantified finding - long way to say it's a matter of opinion b/c to me, I never did really see any significant differences. But, I'm staying away from that.

Now audio levels were higher at first, but have since equalized.

I still feel that the picture quality on my beloved pre-production model was better.
