i had a new install last month. i was set up with a HR54-500 made in 2015. it's the worst POS i have ever used for a DVR. it's slow it's laggy sometimes the 4K mini takes a couple of minutes to get the guide:mad:. as a new customer i thought i was supposed to get the newest crap and not some refurb junk:mad:... thoughts and inputs on thiso_O. i called directv today after scheduling a box exchange for the genie and the mini well hell i thought it was.. the rep set me up for a second brand new install:eek:.. are they that stupid. they don't know what a box swap is??? it took me 2 hours to get that taken care of:rage:...

If you think the HR54 is bad, you should try the HR34 Genie for awhile, or better yet a HR21,22 or 23 DVR. Those were horrible.

I have a HR54-500 with a C61K in my setup (with eSata port), and besides the newer GUI I personally hate, I’m not seeing the issues to the extent that you indicate, and I’ve had my 54 for over 3 years now.

If an hr54 is running very slow then it’s likely got an issue... but could easily be an install issue as much as it is a box issue. And if it’s slow the c61k will be too. Worry about the hr54 and deal with the client after that is fixed.

How’s it all setup physical, wired and such?

    ok.
so i figured out the my genie wasn't an HR 54 500. it was an HR 54 200. Though they did send me an HR 700 unit this time:). hopefully it will have a faster processer than the 200 did:eek:.
the coax drop from my dish to the genie is 120 FT into a 4 way splitter with a power inserter for the reverse band LNB.. the mini is on another 40 FT run from the genie.. i think the old genie has an HDD issue. my signal is locked at 100%!!! and my internets is 500 MBPS more than enough for the genie. the wifi icon is maxed out in the mini..

You said it's wireless. There is no such thing as a wireless 4k mini.

No. The -xxx numbers just refer to the manufacturer. They're functionally and electrically equivalent. Same processor.

The Wifi icon just indicates you are connected to the internet. It has no bearing on connection quality or speed

I beg to differ. I've been using my HR54-200 since May 2015. It's received a horde of CE and National release software and it has been a rock solid performer in all of that time. You need to identify the cause of your issue before assigning blame.

What's the percentage of free space on your HR54's hard drive?

so an HR 54 200 vs a HR 54 700 is the same thing just different manufacture then.. the HR 54 700 seems faster and snappier than the HR 54 200

ok. i dunno why i was thinking a better processer or maybe even a faster HDD. just different looks on the case then..
i am sure it's an HDD issue if it was freezing up though

I agree with you. I have seen differences in performance with various models. I don't remember having many problems with HRs ending in 700. I have had some really wacky things happen with HRs ending in 500. There's something else that sets the 500s aside from other models.

I don't think that's true. The performance varies with the models.
