I think the iPad app is cool to set up recordings and use as remote, so when will we be able to watch our recorded programming from our device ??
Also I think I saw one of the cable companies allow you watch live tv from your iPad.
Anyone hear when this technology will be offered by Dtv ??
A leader in technology would already have this don't you think ??

I wouldn't count on it anytime soon, but it's curious if they did, they'd become an IPTV company. A subscriber wouldn't need Satellite equipment at all.

I'd expect it to work more like DirecTV2PC, going off the DVR.

So would I. And I am sure its coming. Mike White said so!

The question is, whats the timeline. He said by 2013, I think maybe sooner for some, I think its based on contracts. I almost expect AMC to be the first to allow it :D

Nomad lets you download programs from your hddvr to your iPad. Not sure if its out yet, but I think that will help.

Current ads indicate it's here now, but I suspect it's only for ESPN Sunday ticket. Can anyone who's got an iPad and the Ticket confirm??

Yes, that'll be cool, but there are plenty who pooh-pooh the idea unless it's streaming live. I don't care a fig about live streaming to my iPad— almost certainly from the DVR, and not via Internet— unless I am away from a decent HD set. Which rarely happens.

I could view live games on iPad with additional DTV feature. I really don't care about live streaming. But it would be cool to view programs on DVR on IPad when away from home. Thats the feature I am looking for.

Good point. There's no need to host servers for that approach, and the op did mention wanting to be able to watch recordings.

But if it actually worked remotely (over the internet), it would be 50x more useful. Perhaps Dish's integration of Sling tech in to their DVRs will force DirecTv to find a way to make it happen?

Wouldn't help in the OP's second case of live TV.
