I’ve got a 65oled that I bought last year. We’ve got an HR44, 2 older HD DVRs, a wireless client and 3 older stand alone boxes. Everything is great with the existing setup however, I sure would like to upgrade to the HR54 and the 4K client. After hours on the phone and me trying to convince them I don’t want the HS17 and that it just won’t work for my setup because with 8 boxes I have more flexibility and can watch 8 different things at a time and still record something else, I supposedly am set for the upgrade I want next week. Although I’m convinced the tech will show up with the HS17 anyway so we shall see. I’ll have to work it out with him and dtv once he gets there.

So the question is, is it worth it? Everything works great now. I’ve read about the quirks with the client’s picture blacking out and the occasional audio dropouts.

Does the client operate like a DVR as far as being able to pause live tv and the ability to replay from the beginning of shows and movies?

Also, does anyone know where I can see what’s being played on the 4K channels? I can’t find that anywhere.

I’m just hoping I don’t regret messing with the system since everything works great now. Also, the upgrade is supposed to be free but we will see.

    Thanks in advance.

I've been enjoying 4K service since 2016. Channel 104 broadcasts human interest programing in 4K. Channel 105 broadcasts PPV in 4K. Channel 106 broadcasts events (concerts, sports, ect.) in 4K. Well worth the upgrade.

Yeah. It’s a lot of tvs but I really like having the flexibility of the standalone boxes. Thanks for your replies. Hopefully he will have what I want when he shows up.

We have it but rarely ever watch channel 104. I would say it’s not worth it. Stick to UHD blu ray and streaming services for your 4K needs.

I had it for a year before I canceled DirecTV. Canceled a year ago and really don’t miss it.

I just got an HR54 and C61k recently:
Is the 4K worth it? Absolutely!
I faced the same Problem as you, I don’t want to lose my other DVRs so I decided that the time was now or never. My gut tells me that in a few months the only option will be a HS17 and having to give up my other DVRs. If that had been my only choice today I would have skipped going 4K because that would be too steep a price to pay for the 4K

Is it worth it? Sure, considering it is free.

As for it screwing up your current setup I doubt swapping a HR44 for a HR54+4K client will mess anything up. Worst case you drop the client and connect the 54 directly.

wonders how long before they release 8k. as samsung already has an 8k set!!! i love watchin the fast and furious in 4k when the chicks are shackin the there asses it's like there in the living room with me:D:cool::p. 4k is DEF worth the upgrade and it's 4 times sharper than 1080P. i hear that westworld is awsome in 4k i haven't tried it out yet though i am curious to find out about it. i watched skyscraper in 4k and it was the first time my GF ever seen a 4k movie and she was blown away and she was on the seat of her pants during the whole movie:D. she felt like she was a part of the movie. after seeing 4k for the first time!!! full 1080P looks black and white to me. hell i may never goto the movies again:D

    Back to the 4k topic

2 NCAA basketball games have been added to the guide for 1/19 & 1/20. So more and more live broadcast are going 4k

    Is 4K worth it topic

QUESTION, planning on getting Directv in a few weeks, but wont have my 4K TV till this summer.

Is it worth it to get the 4K Genie installed now to avoid a $99 truck or equipment change fee later?
I dont have a 4K TV , will then even install and activate the 4 K service if I dont?
If they wont, what if I borrowed a friends 4K tv just for the install will that work? Will cheap 4K TVs work with Directv or do I need to borrow one with HDMI 2.2 or something high up like that?
