    DirecTV 4K HS17 through Sony 4K XBR55X930E does not recognize 4K
When trying to watch a 4k movie from DirecTV 4K HS17 Genie my Sony 4K XBR55X930E will post that the highest resolution is 720p. The DirecTV Genie has all resolutions checked. Question, how do I get the 930E to display 4K?

Since the HS17 will not send a signal directly to a TV, what client are you using ?

Do you have an AVR in between the client and the TV ?

Do you have anything else hooked up to the TV like a Bluray player ? If yes, what does it show ?

Try pressing the Exit Button on the Client's remote for a few seconds and a message will come to the screen. It will tell you what mode the client is in, either HD or SD. Repeat this process and it will change the client mode.

only C61K could do 4k/UHD to your Sony via direct HDMI 18GHz cable if you'll tune to ch104-105-106

Your Sony XBR-55X930E is a 2017 model. Support for RVU may have ended which seems to be the trend with manufacturers. If that is the case you will need a C61K-700 client.

I have a 940D. It received a FW update quite some time ago that provides full RVU and HLG support, so I would think the OP should be able to receive 4K signals.

Do you have the TV settings set for Enanced HDMI. Are you using HDMI port 3 on the TV? Are you using a High Speed HDMI cable and are you sure it isn’t faulty? You didn’t mention whether there is any AVR in the mix. If there is and it is capable of passing a 4K signal, go into it’s Settings and make sure it is set to passthrough; don’t let it do any video processing.

If all of those things are in place, the TV will up convert to 4K. But here is the kicker. Sony’s OLED TVs will show the unconverted 4K (3820) signal in the upper right hand corner when pressing “Display” on the remote. However, their LED TVs will perform the upconversion to 4K, but it will only display the native resolution, not the 4K resolution. I read that in a couple of places, but didn’t make note of where.

I have both 65” A1E OLED and a 55” 900F LED and that’s the way my resolution numbers display. Is the 900F upconverting? Hard to say, but it looks outstanding.

Sony 4K capable TVs can/will take the non-4K signals they receive and upconvert them to 4K, provided you have enabled the appropriate Settings in the TV ("Enhanced HDMI", I believe). For a more in-depth technical explanation, Google "do Sony 4K TVs upconvert to 4K".

ahah, the Sony will upconvert (as I thought, but wasn't sure if the Sony really just show the upconverted to 2160p signal by other device)

Thanks for all the input. I've unavoidably absent for some time. I hope to answer and or implement your suggestions as soon as possible.
