The reason I ask is tv apps is taking forever to initialize (a common problem going back years, I see) but the youtube app is spoken of as being separate from tv apps, but I don't see it in "Extras". I see Pandora, but that's it.

    Anybody?

Even though it is an app itself; yes it is.

I'm not seeing it, though, when I go to "extras". I see "messages", "tv apps", "Pandora" and a couple other things, but no youtube.

EDIT: When I try to load tv apps now, it says "TV Apps loading. This may take a moment", then it just disappears. Is there still an ongoing problem with tv apps? Still not seeing youtube, either, btw.

Have you tried rebooting the receiver? It is in the Extras section.

I haven't had YouTube on my HR20-100 for several months, including through software updates and multiple reboots. So....no telling why it is/isn't there.

It can take up to 48 hrs from receiver activation for YouTube to show under extras

It is not ever a good idea to reset the receiver under the extra menu. As one of those options is reset everything and if that is selected by mistake it will reformat back to factory settings. Reset by pressing the red button on the right hand side of the receiver behind the flip down panel. A cause of Youtube not showing is the HD DVR was just networked today or the HD DVR may need the YouTube plug-in update. If it does not have the update you may need to force a software download (which I usually do not recommend as it may find beta software). To force a download: reset the receiver. When you see hello immediately enter 02468 and it should find new software. Remote must be in IR and not RF mode. If software found please allow 24 hrs for Youtube feature to fully populate.

Sorry but it is always a good idea to do your resets from the menu, the only time you should use the red button is when you cannot get to the menu do to the receiver being frozen. :nono:

The few times I've used it, I just searched something in the smart search and the bottom option said "YouTube results". Has that changed?

Its the same. You can use that or pull up the actual app itself under the extras menu.

Ideally yes and you are 100% correct, but because reset everything is also an option we were told not to have customers select that. You be surprised of the amount of customers technical support receives that can not follow step by step instructions (slaps forehead). So glad the days of me working tech support are gone lol. If you call in and need to reset for any reason you probably are not ever going to get an agent to tell you to pull up the menu as they are trained to do the red button reset or unplug for 15 seconds if the customer can not find it for that reason

As many times as people have posted about accidentally deleting a recording, I would also stray away from suggesting to reset the receiver in a way that, with one accidental click, could remove everything you currently have setup and recorded.

But it is not one accidental click - once you select the reset options you get another warning screen that requires you to enter a dash to complete the reset.

I've known more than one person to see screens like that, have no idea what to do, and just hit the dash because they don't read it clearly enough. I just avoid the situation from the get go.

Thank you Scott!! I should probably point out that my original reply was first a question "Have you rebooted?" and then a statement on youtube being in the extra's section :) Sorry about the confusion

I would like to point out that their are several full length movies that have been uploaded on youtube to watch for free; many put out by movie studios. Im catching up on Street Fighter & ninja scrolls. :-D Im like so surprised dtv doesn't have vidoes over an hour blocked. Search for a movie followed by Full Length.
