    Broken...
As you are a CSR, you have to follow DirecTV policy, which is written for the technically unsophisticated (A.K.A. the LCD-Lowest Common Denominator). Coming to this forum denotes a certain level of technical awareness, if not expertise, so we can do things that would otherwise be discouraged.

But let's not make the mistake of assuming everyone who visits this forum has technical expertise.

The statement was "It's not ever" that is wrong, CSR or not.

Their are people who google for help with their services and are lead to dbstalk. I would not want one of these people seeing something that can be done by someone with technical expertise that a common person may accidently mess up. Not everyone that visits these forums are highly technical minded like some people here.

    the statement
isn't right either as previoisly mentioned ;)

mystic7, let us know if you are still not able to get the YouTube feature to work :)

Hey! Well, yesterday about mid morning everything was done downloading and, yes, a separate youtube icon showed up under extras. I didn't realize I'd started such an animated thread here :)

As expected, after playing with it for a while, I haven't touched the youtube app anymore. Still playing with on demand and the genie. But it's there and working perfectly. Thanks for all the help and crazy discussions! I know now not to use the red button to reset unless I can't do it from the menu (although Directv CSR's always told me to use the red button!).

DirecTV doesn't do any blocking, any blocking occurs on Google/YouTube's end.

Basically any video that an uploader restricts from devices (which You Tube isn't allowing for new uploads), live streams (which aren't compatible with most devices), and all VEVO content (YouTube just syndicates the content from VEVO, 3rd party devices have to deal directly with VEVO to get it) isn't available. Some really old FLV1 content which hasn't been retranscoded to h264 yet also isn't available.

I realize this as I upload videos to Youtube myself; however I am suprised DirecTV did not ask Youtube to utilize something like an If...Else conditional statement when programming the app for development within the DirecTV gui environment to prevent videos over an hour from being watched on the Youtube App as DirecTV is typically about the bottom dollar.

In case you missed my last post on the previous page, Volatility, yes, the youtube app appeared after 24 hours had gone by and everything was finally downloaded, and it is working just fine.

When you get a chance please check out my latest thread about On Demand shows being in 4:3 SD, zoomed in to fill the screen.

Since the "Restart Receiver" is the default option it's highly unlikely the user will go through the extra steps to choose "Reset Everything".

The potential for data corruption on the hard drive is more likely than the user choosing "Reset Everything".

However, for receivers/clients (non-DVRs) and RBR can be done without having to worry.

IMHO, potential issues for the hard drive far outweighs the worry of choosing Reset Everything. We recommend that, the best, safest option is a Menu "Restart Receiver" and only use RBR when the DVR is unresponsive to both the remote & the front panel.

Its like the customer support team says one thing and the engineering team says another. The house is divided lol.

Odd that this sentiment has been expressed twice in this thread, yet while searching for info on the YouTube app I came across two threads asking why videos are limited to 1 hour 29 minutes. Sure enough, I tried one just now and I can't seem to play anything longer than that.

It's nice to have it built-in to the receiver but it sure seems limited. No way to log in to my account to view favorites, no way to change the picture quality, no way to jump back or skip ahead and aspect ratios are all screwed up (4:3 is stretched on 16:9 displays and 16:9 videos are squashed on 4:3 displays and the format button doesn't work in the app).
